About the Business
Welcome to MyClinicalPsych, a private clinic located in Thirroul, Australia. Our establishment is dedicated to providing family-focused psychological services for children aged 0-12 years and parents/carers experiencing mental health conditions. We offer assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a range of difficulties, from mild to complex.
At MyClinicalPsych, we prioritize the emotional wellbeing of parents and their infants before and during pregnancy, as well as the three years following the birth of a baby. Our evidence-based psychological therapy is available as brief or long-term treatment, tailored to meet the needs of each client. During the initial assessment stage, we involve the client's family, especially for young clients, to establish a well-informed view of their needs. Treatment may then proceed for the family or individual, depending on the benefits to the client.
Our experienced clinical psychologist, Dr. Phoebe Carter, has advanced training and 15 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychological difficulties experienced by children and families. Dr. Carter is trained in various therapeutic approaches, including Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Her work is strongly influenced by attachment theory and family systems theories, which she utilizes when working with children and their families.
While Dr. Carter enjoys working with clients of all ages and backgrounds, she has a special passion for working with parents before and during pregnancy, as well as with children and their parents in early childhood. Her areas of training and interest include parent-child relationships, challenging life transitions, adjustment issues, infertility, antenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety, grief and loss issues in the perinatal period, and stress management.
In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Carter also offers supervision to registered health professionals and trainees currently completing their training. Her expertise has been recognized through publications in areas such as cognitive impairment, late-life depression, personality disorder, trauma, and expressive language difficulty.
We understand the financial aspect of seeking therapy, and that's why we offer Medicare rebates with a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician. Our consultations are 50 minutes long, during which we gain a comprehensive understanding of your current difficulties and discuss treatment options tailored to your needs. Ongoing consultations can be arranged on a weekly, fortnightly, or needs basis.
For parents bringing their children for therapy, your involvement in sessions will vary depending on your child's age and presenting problem. The psychologist will determine the level of parental involvement required to arrive at the best treatment approach for the child.
Therapy may involve recalling unpleasant events and tolerating difficult emotions in order to move forward. However, exploring and understanding our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors alongside a trusted health professional can help make desired changes in our lives, improve wellbeing, and encourage positive relationships.
While a referral is not necessary to attend MyClinicalPsych, a referral from your GP or Psychiatrist under a Mental Health Care Plan entitles you to a Medicare rebate. The rebate allows you to claim a minimum of $129.55 per session, available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. If you have appropriate cover, you can also claim a rebate from your private health fund.
Please note that all scheduled appointment times are reserved in advance exclusively for you. If you miss an appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours notice, a cancellation fee of $120 will be charged, which cannot be claimed through Medicare or private health cover.
We care about your wellbeing, and we understand that sometimes you may need additional support. In case you require immediate assistance, please refer to the following helplines: Parentline (telephone counselling for parents and carers of children aged 0-18), FaCS Helpline (24-hour helpline to report children at risk of harm), and Alcohol and Drug Information Service (24-hour helpline for assistance with alcohol or other drug use).
We are located at 2 Raymond Road, Thirroul, NSW, Australia, 2515. Our clinic operates Tuesday to Thursday. We look forward to supporting you and your family on your journey towards improved mental health and wellbeing.
