About the Business
Welcome to S.V. Rhona H, the oldest and smallest operating tall ship in Hobart, Australia. Located at the end of the Pier in Hobart, just a ten-minute walk from the CBD, our institution offers a unique opportunity to sail on Hobart's historic trading ketches and experience the beauty of Tasmania's waters.
Operated by Heritage Sailing Tasmania with our dedicated all-volunteer crew, S.V. Rhona H takes you on a journey back in time to the era of traditional sailing. Built in 1942, our tall ship allows you to immerse yourself in the rich maritime history of Tasmania. As we sail the River Derwent, guests are treated to complimentary refreshments, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Whether you're a local or a visitor to Hobart, S.V. Rhona H offers regular sailing trips on weekends and some Thursday twilights. Check our website for the latest schedule as times may vary. No matter the weather, we always set the sails, giving you an authentic sailing experience. All ages are welcome, and kids especially love the opportunity to take the helm, steer the ship, haul on lines, and even ring the bell.
While exploring the ship, don't forget to take in the breathtaking views of the harbor. Our location behind the security gates ensures a safe and enjoyable visit. However, we kindly ask that you leave your high heels behind to protect your ankles while on board.
Southern Tasmania's temperatures can be cool, so we recommend packing a jacket. But don't worry, we provide hot water bottles to keep your hands warm during the journey. And if you fall in love with sailing on S.V. Rhona H, locals can inquire about volunteering opportunities and learn to sail the traditional way on a heritage vessel.
During our winter maintenance period, you can find us at the Oyster Cove Slip-yard in Kettering from early August. In the meantime, stay connected with us on Facebook and Instagram to enjoy our social media posts.
Join us on S.V. Rhona H for an unforgettable sailing experience that combines history, adventure, and the beauty of Tasmania's waters. Book your trip today and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Reviews
"Great experience. The volunteer crew were a lot if fun, good food and drinks. Fabulous view of Hobart, Mt Wellington and Tasman Bridge. Thoroughly recommend."
"Had a great day with my 7yo son, it was his first time on anything like a sailing boat. He got to hold the wheel, ring the bell, and was generally spoiled rotted by the crew with lots of attention. Very reasonable price for the memories he will have, a beautiful day and the crew were awesome. Hobart is a wonderful place to visit and the Rhona H was a great experience. Thanks again!!!!"
"A 2 hour great value sail on the Derwent aboard the SV Rhona was the best end to a magical five days in Hobart. A lovely sunny day, plenty of wind so we could really experience sailing, NZ fur seals spotted on numerous occasions, a chance to be the skipper for a few minutes (felt exhilarating) and above all the friendliness and passion of owners Julie and Charles and their wonderful intergenerational volunteer crew. I sailed with two friends (and four other guests) and we could not have been made more welcome, comfortable and looked after by this caring team who were absolutely across everything - general safety, COVID safety, food, drinks (tea, coffee, juice, water), and keeping warm. Highly recommend if you are looking for a traveller experience (as opposed to a tourist experience). Thank you SV Rhona!"
"The crew were all amazing. Everyone was lovely and made the day special for my mum's 60th birthday. Can't recommend these guys enough"
