Maddens Falls Madden Falls Track, Darkes Forest, New South Wales 2508
About the Business
Welcome to Maddens Falls, located in Darkes Forest near Helensburgh, Australia. This establishment is not only a park and point of interest, but also a popular tourist attraction. The main highlight of Maddens Falls is its scenic waterfall views, which can be enjoyed from the lookout point.
To reach the lookout, visitors can embark on the easy Maddens Falls walk, which offers a picturesque view of the waterfall cascading from Maddens Creek to the pools below. This walking track is suitable for all ages, making it a great option for families with children. As you explore the area, keep an eye out for various bird species such as honeyeaters, red wattlebirds, and golden whistlers. Binoculars are highly recommended for birdwatchers. Additionally, you may also hear the calls of tree frogs, brown froglets, and banjo frogs, so walking quietly will increase your chances of spotting wildlife.
At the base of the falls, you'll be greeted by a stunning display of vegetation, including acacias, native river roses, and lush ferns. Springtime is particularly enchanting, as the flowers are in full bloom. Another great time to visit is in April when the falls are at their fullest. Keep an eye out for the rare fern-leaf grevillea, known for its vibrant red "toothbrush-like" flowers.
After taking in the beauty of the falls, you can head back along the track and enjoy a delicious lunch or afternoon tea at the picnic table. For those unable to visit in person, a virtual tour of Maddens Falls is available, captured with Google Street View Trekker.

"A perfect picnic spot where the fabric of nature, mountains, waterfall and above all your soul will be immersed with peace and tranquil... I have seen people doing yoga, painting and other activities... 15 Min drive from Helensburgh temple or opposite to Glenbernie Orchard.... from main road, you will find an interesting passage of walk for 5 minutes to reach the waterfall.. a perfect spot for nature lovers and peace searchers"
"Good place. Easy walk great for short tour. You can go over the waterfall for taking pictures. There is cider farm in front of entrance."
"Look for Darkes Cider on Google maps in terms of getting there. Take the 10z trial to get to the falls. It is an easy, flat, 10min walk with a safe platform to view the falls - suitable for going with small kids or elders. We also ventured on the opposite side of the platform for a closer and different look of the falls by crossing the stream just before the water ledges down (be mindful of the flow, water level and how slippery - it wasn’t bad for us but we did get our shoes wet). It’s also possible to go down on the other side to get besides the fall or actually behind the waterfall. The path down isn’t well marked or developed but noting too difficult or dangerous. Good footwear recommended."
"Easily accessed by a short walk through some beautiful bushland and scrub. Not a big tourist attraction which makes it a fairly quiet place, we spent an hour there totally on our own. Able to enjoy the sounds of nature undisturbed yet just down the road. Not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed my visit"
"This was a great little short walk from the parking area. Very easy for kids. The falls were great as Maddens Creek was full after recent rain. Some of the track was covered in water so maybe a little hard to keep your feet dry but I was wearing hiking sandals so had no problems."
