"Overall, my experience at Toki Modern Japanese was nothing short of extraordinary. The innovative fusion of traditional Japanese flavors, the impeccable service, and the inviting ambiance made for a truly memorable dining experience. I highly recommend Toki Modern Japanese to anyone seeking a culinary adventure that celebrates the best of Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. I am already looking forward to my next visit to this exceptional establishment."
"Where do we begin, expensive is one word that comes to mind. Having been to Japan many times, FYI I also work for a Japanese company. I found this experience to be nothing short of ordinary, all the dishes we had for the high price point were underwhelming, the soft shell crab rolls tased like oil, I told the waitress, she didn't seem that interested in our feedback. The service was warm and friendly, but the food was nothing interesting and certainly not worth the price they they charge. They really need to lift their game and acquaint themselves with real Japanese cuisine, this is very ordinary Chinese Japanese at best."
"Very disappointed with Toki. There was nothing wrong with the produce, most of the ingredients were fresh and flavourful. There is a significant problem with the pricing. Sushi platter and the deluxe are $40 apart, however the latter includes just 9 slices of sashimi more. Even for the most endangered of species, this seems a bit much. Waiter immediately went for the $750/kg Wagyu Beef upsell without describing any other dishes or recommendations. Across the board I think a 10% reduction in costs would be appropriate as I dont think the set menu offers value at all and most dishes are overpriced. We had a reservation, but the waiter said he would see what he could do, this probably should have been a red flag. Water was not served until the third time of asking and the restaurant was not what you would call extremely busy. We had a booked activity two hours from our booking time at the restaurant and the staff did their best to accommodate this, so that was a plus to an otherwise poor dinner experience. We ordered all of the sashimi options from the menu, hoping for some clean fresh flavours, however the kingfish and salmon were both marred by strong flavours and sauces (seen in the photos) - not what you want from sashimi. The teriyaki chicken tasted very floury and the brussel sprout (strange inclusion in a Japanese menu) was raw. Overall the flavours from most of the dishes were a surprise, although not for good reason. To be honest, this seemed a bit of a tourist trap. Edit 23/9: In response to the owners comment, your menu then probably needs work, because it isn't clear that the sashimi will arrive at the table as it did. I did read the menu and understand that the Wagyu was 100g min, however that and the salmon were the only two dishes that you highlighted. Again, with the sushi platter - I am going by the menu description, even you can concede that it describes one with 9 slices of sashimi in the deluxe and one without in the standard. Please also don't pull the wool over the eyes of customers, we also ordered a Udon and fried rice as mains as well as the teriyaki chicken and pork belly. I feel honesty works best when replying to a less than glowing review. I don't feel that it is unreasonable to walk away from the dining experience disappointed and feel ripped off. All good to be up in arms about a bad review, but when you consider the table spend was thereabouts to $400, the value was definitely missing."
"What a fabulous lunch we had at Toki. Staff were lovely, warm and welcoming. The food was AMAZING We ordered off the a la carte menu and were excited with every plate. Delicious food beautifully presented matched with wines suggested by the ever so helpful and knowledgeable Brian We can’t wait to go back again"
