"Booked lunch for my best friend’s baby shower. Everyone drove from Sydney for the occasion, only to find the venue was closed! I was beyond embarrassed! As a business owner myself, I think it’s shocking that a business would treat customers so poorly! How hard is it to update your website and voicemail to advise customers that you’re closed?!"
"Great location near the beach and was very accommodating for our large group. We ordered a variety of dishes like gnocchi, steak, spaghetti, rocket salad, veal, garlic bread, calamari and haloumi. All the dishes were reasonable in size but the prices were on the high side."
"The service was excellent and the young lady who served us is an asset to the venue but unfortunately I can’t shower as much praise as other reviews. The tapas menu looks great on paper and at an average of $15ish dollars a portion you expect to get really high quality dishes. Whist not bad quality, there isn’t much to write home about. There is also some inaccuracies with the menu. The menu states Kingfish Carpaccio, which is thin slices of meat, however, what was delivered was basically thick cut sashimi style. Still, a nice cut of fish but not what was described on the menu. The Moroccan Meatballs had the consistency of store bought sausage meatballs and the sauce was just a basic tomato sauce; no real Moroccan flavours to be found. The prawns were tasty but three for $18 seems expensive on a per prawn basis. We ordered two mains to share. The Squid Ink Linguini with Crab and Zucchini, and the Grilled Spiced Smoked Tofu. I was worried after I ordered the linguini and the table next to us seemed to have issues with the same dish. There was some conversation with the waitress that didn’t boost our confidence. The resulting dish was swimming in a really watery squid ink and it made for a slightly unpleasant experience. Squid ink is normally used to colour the pasta or as an accompaniment for a base sauce. It really felt like you were eating pasta that fell into an ink well. The crab meat was also applied sparingly, which was disappointing for a dish with a $36 price point. The Tofu was nice. Very hot so not for faint of heart if you don’t like chilly. The XO sauce was too heavy on soy sauce and too light on sherry. It was basically slabs of tofu in a hot soy sauce; it just lacked refinement. Let’s finish on a good note… The drinks were really nice including cocktails and some very nice draft beers and the sourdough bread was really tasty. In conclusion it’s a really lovely location and hopefully we just came on the wrong night or ordered the wrong things because I would love to go back to this funky bar/ restaurant."
"This place is amazing! Highly impressed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Our host for the evening was Bambi, she was very polite and attentive. We ordered the crabmeat linguine which was absolutely delicious and the trout was cooked to perfection."
"What an improvement on the old Jose Jones! The food is incredible in comparison, and there are lovely attentive staff. It is a great addition to Thirroul, and very convenient they have dog friendly the outside tables. They could do with a longer wine by the glass menu (a few different rosés for example), but overall a fantastic experience. Thank you!"
