Newcastle Beach Hotel 21 Parnell Place, Newcastle East, New South Wales 2300

"To start with the room.. holes in curtains, stains everywhere, the bed you could feel the springs in it when you pushed down. Stains on the extra blanket given. A cup was visibly dirty and everything else looked like it was stained, broken or just so old and in need of renovation. The security was the bigger issue for me..No reception for check in so no one watching over what happens, whenever I went out someone was folding up business cards and sticking it in the door so it couldn't lock (I was there 4 nights and this happened every single night and when I removed it someone would put it back in), there were people clearly on drugs (likely meth) hanging out the front and inside on multiple occasions. On the last night I was there some guy was screaming at a girl who was running away from him down the hallway at 2am in the morning.. I tried to call the hotel but didn't get through so no idea what happened but she sounded scared. I just got the feeling that it was used as a drug house or something, maybe I'm way off but that's the vibe I got from staying there. The location being next to the beach was good.. but honestly pick another hotel!"

"Horrific smell of smoke rooms dingy people smoking and partying in corridor in early hours of morning every night, front door didn’t lock so random people walking in and no one on location overnight to sort anything out. Worst night I’ve ever experienced, barely slept and felt extremely unsafe. Avoid at all costs even if it’s a nice location."

"Room was very basic, but it was clean and very comfy and secure, great air con, plenty of pillows and clean towels and a terrific hot shower!! The place is in an awesome location, right around the corner from beaches, wharf precinct, bars, cafes, surf clubs. The check in process is a bit complicated but we worked it out - the service team are lovely and very professional. Room had a fridge, TV, microwave and kettle, and there's free body wash in the shower. Wish I could've stayed in beautiful Newcastle longer, and definitely will stay at this hotel again."

"Crusty! In a major need of renovation Room size is good, and the views are beautiful That's it's only saving grace As you enter the main lobby you are met with a foul smell. That continues through the hallway to the rooms. The room has a reasonable aroma but overshadowed by the intensity of the bleach that's required to kill long-term bacterium It's no surprise as the carpet is disgustingly old, dirty and smelly Paint everywhere is marked and scratched The details in the room are incredibly aged Furniture and bathroom very old and decrepit Too expensive for the poor quality accommodation"

"This hotel was very easy to access. I received a text message which clearly outlined step by step how to access the building and my room. Another guest had issues and they borrowed my phone to call for assistance. The help desk answered straight away and were polite and able to assist him. There is an elevator, air-conditioning, microwave. The room and bed were both large and clean, the walls and curtains were outdated. I would recommend this room as a no frills value for money room."
