Welcome to Gentle Strength Counselling, located in the beautiful City of Lake Macquarie, Swansea, New South Wales, Australia. My name is Amy, and I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and experienced Counsellor.

With over 20 years of experience in the human services industry, I have had the privilege of working in various roles, including as a high school Counsellor, a Counsellor for CanTeen (an organization supporting young people living with cancer), and as a volunteer in Vietnam for the Christina Noble Children's Foundation. These experiences have shaped my approach to counselling, which is person-centred and humanistic.

At Gentle Strength Counselling, I believe in providing a safe and supportive environment where individuals can feel seen and heard. I utilize a range of therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, to tailor the counselling experience to each individual's needs.

I offer counselling services for children (5 and older), adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Additionally, I have completed the level 1 Gottman Couples Therapy training and I am a ‘Circle of Security’ parenting facilitator. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your relationship, or your family, I am here to help.

Located in Swansea, Newcastle NSW, my office space provides a welcoming and comfortable setting for face-to-face counselling sessions. However, if you are unable to access me in person, I also offer phone and online counselling sessions via a secure and user-friendly platform.

Adolescence can be a challenging time, and it is common to need support in navigating the ups and downs of life, such as relationships, family dynamics, school pressures, low self-esteem, isolation, mental health concerns, and grief and loss. I am dedicated to building meaningful relationships with adolescents, taking the time to understand their world and provide the support they need to feel safe, belong, and believe in themselves and their future.

Struggles are a part of the human condition, but no one should have to suffer in silence or alone. I am here to support you throughout life's ebbs and flows, helping you process, heal, and accept. Together, we will work on what you need and build a positive therapeutic relationship that empowers you.

Motherhood is a complex and contradictory experience, filled with both joy and challenges. I offer individual counselling for mothers, providing empathy and genuine support during this transformative time. Additionally, my support groups offer a safe space for mothers to connect with others, share their truths, and feel seen and heard without judgment.

When working with children, my approach is playful, respectful, and holistic. I engage children creatively and compassionately, allowing them the time and space to express themselves and navigate their emotions. Whether they are struggling with big emotions, grief and loss, anxiety, self-worth, friendships, or family challenges, I support both children and their caregivers/parents to communicate and connect more effectively.

To ensure the highest level of professionalism, I hold a Master of Social Work degree, a Diploma of Education, a Bachelor of Social Science, a Cert IV T&A, and a Diploma of Community Services. As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW), clients with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP can access the Medicare rebate.
