"A bit average really. Mains were good. Potatos and beans had no seasoning. Bread seemed a little stale. Warmed in the microwave? Desserts were sticky date and apple crumble. Sticky date was inedible, tasted really strange. I had to spit it out. Apple crumble was nice but basic. No extras added into the stewed apples (even a little cinnamon and nutmeg go a long way). No compensation offered upon mentioning the sticky date pudding or apologies for that matter. For the price, I've had better at cheaper restaurants. Bit disappointed really. Especially for a birthday celebration, you expect something a little decent. Can see why it was so empty on a Friday night. As a local, I won't be back."
"We arrived late to this venue to find we were the only guests there on a wet, cold and quiet night. But these guys really made us feel welcome, none the less. The meals were excellent, unfussed, well balanced, rustic cooking very well executed (homemade gnocchi with lamb ragu and cofit duck with puy lentils perfect winter dining). Despite being the only guests in the venue the hosts were welcoming, warm and keen to provide us with a good dining experience. I truly appreciate how hard it must be to keep the ship sailing in the quieter winter months and still provide an excellent meal at a very reasonable price. Thank you guys!"
"What a great little cosy “cafe” with restaurant quality meals. We had the croquettes, the gnocchi, tagine and for dessert the fig tart and sticky date pudding - all extremely well balanced favours delivered with a high level of service. We will definitely be back!"
"It's a shame that the service at this place is so bad. The waitress (manager?) comes across as quite cold and uninterested. A number of other tables were seated well after us but their orders were taken before. We (and at least three other tables that we saw) had to ask for menus 15 minutes after being seated! The food is overpriced and our dishes were 'okay' apart from some well overcooked prawns (very rubbery), but the chef cooked some more once we pointed it out to the waitress. The salt shakers need a good clean - we saw serveral people unscrewing theirs just so they could get salt out - shaking them did nothing! Goolwa has good restaurants, but this isn't one of them based on our experience."
