About the Business
Welcome to the Olive Branch Cafe, located in the picturesque town of Balhannah in the beautiful Adelaide Hills of Australia. Situated at 84 Main Street, our family-owned establishment is a popular point of interest for locals and visitors alike.
Led by Chef and owner Nicole McIntosh, who brings over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, the Olive Branch Cafe is committed to providing a memorable dining experience. Nicole has worked in renowned establishments in Melbourne, including "Kayes on King" and the award-winning "Onions" in South Yarra. Her expertise and passion for fresh, high-quality ingredients are evident in every dish we serve.
Since relocating to the Adelaide Hills in 2001, Nicole has been inspired by the abundance and quality of the local produce. This inspiration led to the establishment of the Olive Branch Cafe in 2008. We are proud to be part of the vibrant local community and support local producers, artisans, and musicians.
Our menu showcases the best of the Adelaide Hills, offering a diverse selection of modern Australian dishes. Whether you are a food enthusiast or simply looking for a delicious and affordable meal, our menu has something for everyone. We take pride in using fresh, healthy ingredients to create flavorful and satisfying meals without any pretense.
At the Olive Branch Cafe, we believe in supporting local artists and provide a gallery space to showcase their works. We also offer space for local artisans and micro-businesses to display their products. Additionally, we support the local music scene by featuring live performances through our association with "Club Acoustica," a collective of talented Hills musicians.
Families are always welcome at the Olive Branch Cafe. Our spacious premises include a popular indoor children's play area, ensuring that the little ones are safely and happily occupied while parents enjoy a coffee or a chat. We also organize structured activities for kids, such as supervised craft sessions and school holiday cooking classes.
As a proud participant in the SA Government's Healthy Kids Menu program, we offer healthier menu options for children. In recognition of our commitment to promoting healthy choices, we were honored to receive the "Healthy Choices for Kids - Premier's Commendation Award" at the 2017 Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Australia industry awards for excellence.
We invite you to join us at the Olive Branch Cafe, where passion for fresh, great-tasting food meets the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Adelaide Hills. Experience the best of our local community and indulge in a truly delightful dining experience.

"The best battered fish and chips, I'm a Coeliac, so I can eat the batter as it's GF, and there is a designated separate fryer. Always good food and reasonable prices, great coffee and fresh cakes available. Also take away meals."
"Great coffee and real food. If you want standard “white bread” fare or trendy decor this is not for you. If you prefer a casual place to have a decent coffee &/or meal with focus on local & fresh, friendly country service, then come on in. Community garden and swap table out the side."
"I visited 3 times in the last month with a work colleague and 2 different groups with disabilities. They were accommodating with our clients having their own food and we bought food and drinks and our clients bought drinks. I had soup with toast each time and it was lovely and reasonably priced. One client had a club sandwich which he said he enjoyed. One client played in the kids play area when he finished his lunch. The staff spoke to our clients when they ordered their drinks and one staff remembered what my client had a month ago when we visited the first time. My first visit my colleague said he enjoyed the coffee. The second visit my colleague said the coffee was great and that he had dreams about it so I tried it today and it is bloody good coffee. I would recommend for the coffee either dine in or takeaway. If dining in it is spacious and quiet inside even with many people and also they have 2 doors, one for entry and the other for an exit I’m assuming to ease congestion and or maybe something that was started due to Covid however , my clients used the incorrect door. The staff were extremely friendly. I would definitely return when I’m back in the hills again"
"This place is not about being a fancy restaurant, its not about making a plate of food into art and its not the place you would come to dressed up on a Friday or Saturday night, its about making food the best it can be using locally sourced produce where possible. I had a beef and vegie pie and the meet was awesomely tender and just a good hearty pie. The prices are really reasonable and there is even a kids play area. Abit of a shame i live so far away otherwise I think I would be here every weekend for a meal. For anyone who appreciates good food this is a must see food destination"
