In addition to our metalwork courses, we also offer an opportunity to explore the South American tradition of the asado BBQ. This versatile cooking method can be used to prepare a variety of BBQ styles, including those that use spits and grills. During your time with us, you will learn different techniques and have the chance to cook delicious meals using the asado BBQ.
To enhance your BBQ experience, we believe in providing you with the best equipment. Alongside making your own asado BBQ, you will also have the opportunity to craft a massive stainless steel carving knife from fine Swedish cutlery steel. The best part is that you will get to use what you make during a BBQ feast on the course, truly making it a memorable experience.
No prior BBQ or metalwork experience is necessary to participate in our courses. They are suitable for anyone aged 16 and up, making it a great opportunity for both beginners and enthusiasts alike.
In addition to our regular courses, we also offer a special four-day Viking festival of making. During this event, you will have the chance to forge your own Viking knives, helmet, axe, and shield. Immerse yourself in the world of Vikings and learn the ancient techniques used to create their iconic weapons and armor.

"Just did the fire pit course and it was great. The satisfaction at seeing the fire pit emerge over the day was awesome. MIG welding hints and tips from our awesome instructor. She even showed us a bit of smithing... great taster for the next course. Keep it up Thawra forge, just strength to strength. I'll be back."
"So, my husband (no doubt in desperate straits trying to figure out a good gift for me) bought me a weekend course "Make your own leather Apron" I honestly was a bit iffy, why not just buy me a fancy one instead? I thought, but I was so very wrong!!! It was super fun, Amanda the teacher was really fabulous and so helpful and also really fun. She had a lot of skill and knowledge was nothing was held back. we all made our Aprons, learnt some basic leatherworking skills which was really fun and satisfying, then got to personalise things like pockets, hanging rings etc. I use mine for glasswork so I could set it up how I liked with a perfect fit and it has made me wonder why I ever used the $20 el-bodgo job that I set fire to once - so I am pretty sure that old thing wasn't real leather. The Apron making course was over a weekend, we took our lunch and had a break when and if we needed one. By Sunday arvo a few of us had finished and we got to scramble around in the scrap boxes and make a few fun sculptural keyrings. I went home, and then called back the following weekend to buy leather to play with at home. It was really fantastic!!!"
"Fantastic course, a little bit of therory and a lot of hard work. Led by Instructor Charlie who provided excellent break down of the steps involved and why with demonstrations that made it look easy."
"We did the One Day knife making course and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tim, our instructor was so very skilled, patient and helpful, providing excellent advice and tips ensuring we all managed to finish our knives successfully by the end of the course. A mate and I did the day with our sons and we all had a great time, and all made razor sharp and unique custom knives of our choice, based on the pre cut blanks and handles available. Yes it costs a bit, but in my opinion it’s worth every cent and I want to go back and do other courses with TVF. Karim helped me sort a custom group booking in advance too. All in all a fantastic experience and well worth a go ;-D"
"Brilliant! Went here to do a Stainless Steel Knife Making course. Amazing Class! Charlie is a great teacher, super patient, helpful and very skilled. Keen to return for another course!"
