Three Brothers Arms Hotel 40-42 Venables Street, Macclesfield, South Australia 5153
About the Business
Welcome to the Three Brothers Arms Hotel, located in the charming town of Macclesfield, Australia. Situated at 40-42 Venables Street, this historic establishment is not your average pub. With a rich history dating back to 1841, it is the oldest continuously operating hotel in the Adelaide Hills.
Nestled on the high bank of the Angus River, the hotel boasts a picturesque location and a bountiful water supply. In its early days, it was renowned for its brewery, producing award-winning local beers that quenched the thirst of weary travelers, rangers, farmers, and locals alike.
Throughout its nearly 200-year history, the Three Brothers Arms Hotel has endured fires and even suspected murders, earning it a reputation for being haunted. Just ask our staff, who are more than happy to share intriguing stories about the local ghost.
Today, the hotel has evolved into a vibrant hub for music and the arts. We take pride in being a pokies-free venue, focusing on providing excellent restaurant food, a wide selection of beers and local wines, and friendly service. Our passionate family owners have made it their mission to bring live music to the area, with local bands performing weekly and numerous festivals held throughout the year.
If you're planning a special event, look no further than the Three Brothers Arms Hotel. With its sweeping lawns, charming stonework buildings, and a marquee, our venue is perfect for weddings, engagements, and milestone birthdays. Our dedicated team will ensure your celebration is unforgettable.
As you step into the hotel, you'll be greeted by the cozy atmosphere of the front bar, affectionately known as the 'Goats Head Baaah.' With its original wooden shingle roof, quirky displays, and a record player spinning tunes, it's a great conversation starter. During colder months, the open fires add a homely and rustic charm to the ambiance.
Recent restoration efforts have brought new life to the outer stone buildings. 'Davenport's Den,' a section specifically designed for those who prefer to relax in the beer garden, offers a tranquil retreat. Additionally, the heritage stables are nearing completion, promising exciting announcements in the near future.
When it comes to wine, the Three Brothers Arms Hotel boasts an impressive selection in its cellars. We proudly feature wines from local vineyards, allowing you to savor the flavors of the Adelaide Hills.
Not only is the Three Brothers Arms Hotel a historic gem, but it is also one of the few establishments in South Australia that still operates under its original license. We invite you to come and say hello, engage in conversations about music, food, gardens, or even the resident ghost. Our friendly staff is always ready to make your visit unforgettable.

"Had lunch there today with my social club. The food was delicious, service great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Absolutely loved it and we will be back. Bonus is a live band on Sunday."
"My partner & I had a garlic bread (pizza type), Gourmet Lamb pizza and chicken schnitzel. All were cooked perfectly with fresh ingredients. Don't skip this place!!"
"Had lunch today at the Three Brothers Arm. Great service, food and a cosy atmosphere with the fire going. A couple of good craft ales on tap as well :) I had the Beef Cheek and Stout pie. Very nice with homemade short crust pasty and creamy mash. My partner had Atlantic Salmon with Broccolini and roasted tomatoes. Cooked perfectly, will definitely go back again."
"Charming, character filled pub where you least expect it. Great beer and food at good prices, with an excellent outdoor space that has a number of music spaces hosting local festivals and bands. The bar is split into two, with one side leaning towards a gastropub and the other a more intimate space for music and drinking, decorated in music posters. The staff are friendly and genuine and the whole place has the atmosphere of community. This pub truly feels like a lived in, local place, but dont let that make you feel unwelcome as you most definitely are."
"Awesome food! The crumbed Camembert was amazing, the chicken salad delicious and the garlic prawn pizza was one of the best pizzas I’ve had for a long time…and I’ve eaten at a lot of the good pizza places around South Australia. Not the typical wood fired bubbled crust and stretchy dough but seriously good. Charming country pub! Some might think a bit rough around the edges in terms of decor and staff but thank god places like this still exist!"
