About the Business
Welcome to Winyu Early Childhood Service, an inclusive and family-focused early learning centre located in the heart of Gungahlin, Australia. Our purpose-built centre boasts open plan spaces and state-of-the-art facilities, providing education and care for children aged six weeks to five years.
At Winyu, we strive to complement your family's approach to learning. Our warm and welcoming environment promotes children's rights, autonomy, independence, curiosity, and freedom to explore their world. We celebrate multiculturalism and individuality, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion. We value and embrace our differences, ensuring that all families feel supported and included in our community.
By choosing our services, you also contribute to our community activities, such as housing programs, community development, youth engagement, and education to prevent domestic and family violence. We are proud to be a part of YWCA Canberra and the positive impact we make on our community.
Our team at Winyu consists of educators and staff from around the world, bringing diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives to our teaching and learning. We believe that our differences are our strength, enriching our learning environment and providing unique opportunities for growth and development.
Children of all ages at Winyu have access to a combination of early childhood teachers and professional educators. We carefully allocate educators to each age group, ensuring a balanced approach to teaching and learning, enhanced by diverse knowledge and skills.
Meet Finley, one of our professional early childhood educators. With a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and a Bachelor's Degree in Chinese Literature, Finley brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. She creates a warm and nurturing environment for children, recognizing each child as a unique individual with their own capabilities. As a foodie, traveler, and nature lover, Finley values laughter, conversation, and providing stimulating experiences for children to grow and discover.
Our outdoor environment features a beautiful and sustainable nature-based playground design, complete with green plants, bamboo bushes, vegetable gardens, and engaging play areas. Indoors, we provide inclusive play spaces carefully designed to promote children's independence and imagination. Each area, such as the 'practical life' corner, encourages pretend play and the development of social skills.
As a multicultural centre, we respect and celebrate diverse cultural backgrounds, beliefs, traditions, practices, and perspectives. Our educators bring valuable cultural knowledge and skills that enrich our learning environment. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land and pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present, and future.
At Winyu, we believe in the benefits of mixed-aged learning and play. Every day, we provide mixed-aged playtime, allowing children to freely explore different environments, play with diverse resources, and interact with educators from different rooms. This approach fosters sibling interaction, nurtures supporting behaviors among older children, and promotes social skills, language development, and confidence in younger children.
Inspired by leading international early childhood education research and innovation, we have designed flexible learning environments and routines that align with family practices at home. We believe that children learn through their interactions with the social world and their environment. To promote their learning and development, we actively engage with our local community spaces, people, and organizations. This includes visits from families sharing their experiences, collaborations with Floriade for gardening activities, and visits from firefighters.
We are grateful for the support of our families, who contribute their time and effort to make our learning experiences meaningful. Together, we care for around 3000 children each week through our children's services at YWCA Canberra.
Join us at Winyu Early Childhood Service and experience our inclusive, family-focused, and innovative approach to early learning. "One of the key concerns we encountered was the facility's inability to promptly communicate issues regarding our child. Despite repeated attempts at establishing open lines of communication, we found ourselves left in the dark about important matters affecting our child's day to day experience. Lack of prompt communication left us feeling uninformed and concerned about our child overall wellbeing. It is disheartening to witness instances where educators raised their voices at children instead of employing gentle and patient approaches. This type of behavior not only undermines the nurturing environment that parents expect but also fails to foster positive relationships between educators and children. It is crucial for childcare providers to prioritise respectful and empathetic communication methods, creating an atmosphere where children feel safe and valued."
"Extremely unhappy with this daycare service. So glad we made the decision to take our boy out and move to another service. He is now thriving and happy. This service as extremely hard to get a hold of when calling during the day and we felt targeted our boy instead of trying to help him when he had big feelings. If you have the choice to go elsewhere please do!!"
"Our son has been attending Winyu for 9 months and has absolutely thrived. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, and attentive to all children in their care. Seeing our son come home with new skills is amazing, we especially enjoy all the new songs he has been teaching us at home. Our son is going to miss all the staff so much when we move interstate, particularly Mary, to say he has a soft spot for Mary is an understatement. I would highly recommend sending your bundle of joy/s to winyu, you won't be disappointed."
"I would rate Winyu as the best daycare in the North area, my son was in another centre before and he got sick and injured frequently. Since I transferred him to Winyu, he is always happy and loves to go to his centre. Kiki is a very responsible director that engages with children a lot not just sitting in the office. Educators are caring and interactive both with children and families, they are very creative and there are always interesting learning activities for children. Winyu is doing very well in hygiene procedures and it is a very clean and tidy centre."
