About the Business
Welcome to YWCA Canberra, located at 71 Northbourne Avenue in the vibrant city of Canberra, Australia. As a prominent establishment and point of interest in the area, we are dedicated to making a positive impact in our community through various areas of work.
Our institution focuses on children's services, community development, housing, youth engagement, education and training, and advocacy. With a strong commitment to social inclusion, we strive to support our community in areas such as housing, domestic and family violence, social development, and youth services.
At YWCA Canberra, we understand the importance of providing quality early childhood and school-age education and care services. Our programs are designed to create positive outcomes for children and families, ensuring that they receive the support they need to thrive.
In addition to our education services, we also offer comprehensive education and training programs. These programs cater to individuals, government agencies, private businesses, and community organizations, helping them enhance their skills and knowledge.
As a feminist not-for-profit organization, we have been serving the Canberra community since 1929. Our long-standing commitment to women's issues and community services has allowed us to make a significant impact over the years. In fact, we recently celebrated our 90th anniversary, marking nine decades of providing essential and quality services for women, girls, and families in the ACT and surrounding regions.
We are deeply rooted in the history of Canberra, as our organization has evolved alongside the changing local and societal contexts. We invite you to explore our achievements and share your own story with us.
In line with our values of equality and social justice, YWCA Canberra is proud to host our seventh annual prom for LGBTQIA young people and their allies across Canberra. This event serves as a celebration of diversity and inclusivity, providing a safe and welcoming space for all.
Our members play a crucial role in everything we do. By becoming a member, you join a community of like-minded individuals who share our passion for equality and social justice. Together, we can make a difference and create endless possibilities.
We strongly believe that everyone deserves the right to contribute to and benefit from the social, cultural, and economic development of the Canberra community. You can help us turn this belief into reality by making a donation today.
Thank you for visiting YWCA Canberra, where we strive to empower individuals, families, and communities for a brighter future.

"Love everything about the YWCA! I had the privilege to attend the She Leads conference 2024 and had a great time. Amazing speakers, great vibes and it was organised perfectly. Thinking about using the YWCA’s services? Do it!"
"Treated rudely by staff, ignored and told they were full, no help offered, made me feel sick the way the support worker spoke to me. Asked for counselling and was ignored"
"Dodgy HR practices when 3 separate emails asking genuine queries ahead of applying for a role thatI am more than qualified for, go unanswered. No SPAM whatsoever. They went through. An organisation championing women? Not this woman in this case.. So incredibly disappointed how funds are not put to ethical and proper use. Something smells rotten to me. Thanks you for your recent response. I shall forward the three emails for your investigation into this matter."
"Incredible place to work. The women here are progressive and inclusive and kind. The childcare sector is amazingly talented and skilled in supporting developing minds and the overall attitude and environment is welcoming and warm. I've worked across the sector in the ACT and YWCA Canberra are the best of the best, putting so much effort and care into supporting woman and families in the community."
"Rude staff. Workers who couldn't be bothered doing what they're paid for. The well known culture of bullying within the workplace extends to the way the general public are treated when they call with concerns about their clients. While they rent properties only to women and their children, it's common to find the male (apparently violent etc) living in the home soon after it's been secured. It appears to be a well known scam to gain cheap accommodation. Without checks and balances, women who really need these properties can't get into them, because they're occupied by women who lied about DV to get cheap accommodation. It highlights the piteous situation with low cost housing - that people have to go to these lengths to have a roof over their heads. But, all the tenants that have been placed in the home next door have been problematic to the community. The blame is squarely placed with YWCA for not having a better system of checks and balances and proper action when tenants have broken their leases..."
