Florey Primary School 57 Ratcliffe Crescent, Florey, Australian Capital Territory 2615
About the Business
Welcome to Florey Primary School, located at 57 Ratcliffe Crescent in the beautiful suburb of Florey, Australia. Our institution is not just an ordinary primary school, but a special establishment that prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students. We are proud to be an allergy and anaphylaxis aware school, providing a protective environment for children who have severe allergic reactions to nuts and nut products.
At Florey Primary School, we understand the importance of creating a safe space for all students, which is why we kindly ask parents and carers to provide nut-free food for their child's morning tea and lunch. By doing so, we ensure that every child can enjoy their meals without the risk of triggering an allergic reaction.
The suburb of Florey itself is named after the renowned Howard Walter Florey, a distinguished individual who made significant contributions to the field of medicine. Born in Adelaide on September 24, 1898, Florey studied at Adelaide University before becoming a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. He later held prestigious positions as a Professor of Pathology at Sheffield and Oxford, where he and his team played a pivotal role in isolating and producing penicillin in sufficient quantities for widespread use during World War II. Florey's achievements earned him a knighthood in 1944 and a share of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945. His expertise also extended to advising the John Curtin School of Medical Research in Canberra and serving as the Chancellor of the ANU in 1966.
While most houses in Florey were constructed during the mid-1980s, our school came into existence a few years later in 1989. From its inception, Florey Primary School has been dedicated to fostering a love for learning among our students. Our original motto, 'Learning is Wonderful!', reflects our belief in the transformative power of education. Our logo, which depicts a group of children holding hands under the distinctive Florey roofline, symbolizes the unity and inclusivity that defines our learning culture. In 2007, we updated our logo to better represent our commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all students.
In addition to our focus on education, Florey Primary School also hosts various events throughout the year to bring our community together. Some upcoming events include the Father's Day Stall on September 1, 2023, the Spring Disco Note on September 1, 2023, and the P & C Trivia Night on September 8, 2023. These events provide opportunities for families to engage and have fun while supporting our school.
We invite you to explore our website and discover more about the vibrant and nurturing educational environment at Florey Primary School. Whether you are a parent, carer, or simply interested in learning more about our institution, we look forward to welcoming you into our community.
