About the Business
Welcome to Take Charge Wellbeing, an institution located in Gooseberry Hill, Dale Drive, 8, Australia. We are a health establishment and a point of interest dedicated to helping individuals and businesses take charge of their mental health and wellbeing. Our mission is to provide people with strategies and tools to manage and improve their mental wellbeing, as well as recognize mental health problems in others.
Founder Darren Peterson, with over 20 years of experience as a blue-collar worker and in Fly In, Fly Out (FIFO) roles, understands firsthand the impact that mental health problems can have on work and families. Witnessing the tragic loss of 14 lives on his last FIFO job, Darren recognized the need for more support and tools for FIFO and heavy industry workers to better cope with their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, especially while at work. This experience led him to create the Take Charge Wellbeing Workshop in 2017.
Our workshop teaches evidence-based tools and strategies derived from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Meditation practices. Participants learn how to independently use their minds and bodies to positively impact their overall wellbeing and mental health. Additionally, our workshop equips individuals with practical skills to support others experiencing mental health problems.
Delivered in an informal manner by a peer who has been in their shoes, the Take Charge workshop uses relatable terminology and scenarios that participants can engage with. The program can be tailored to different industries and groups, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness. By attending our workshop, individuals can make a real difference in their work and personal lives by taking charge of their mental health and wellbeing.
We offer two training options: one to help individuals take charge of their own mental health and another to equip them to support someone else experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. Our courses are delivered by an experienced blue-collar and ex-FIFO worker who has personally battled mental health issues, ensuring a relatable and compassionate approach.
In addition to our workshops, we also offer an accredited, 2-day Mental Health First Aid Course. This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to assist adults in developing mental health problems or experiencing a mental health crisis until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
