About the Business
Welcome to Byford Skin Cancer Clinic, located at Blytheswood Avenue in the heart of Byford, Australia. Our newly built facility is dedicated to providing exceptional care for people of all ages in the region.
At Byford Skin Cancer Clinic, we specialize in the diagnosis and management of skin disorders and skin cancer. Our expert team is committed to ensuring the health and well-being of every member of our community.
We offer skin checks for a fee of $75, which is bulk billed for pensioners and healthcare card holders. Our friendly staff will assist you in making your next appointment, so why not give us a call today?
Our principal doctor, who has a special interest in dermatology, minor cosmetic surgical procedures, and skin cancer surgery, leads our team. With many years of experience in this field, he is an accredited member of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. His postgraduate qualifications include a fellowship with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia and a GP dermatology fellowship. He is actively involved in SCCA and dermatology postgraduate educational activities.
During your visit, you will be asked to undress to your underclothes and lay down on a couch for the examination. It is advised to avoid wearing facial make-up, as it will need to be removed for a proper facial examination. We also examine the scalp, so it's best to avoid pleating or tying back your hair. Shoes and socks are routinely removed, and it is recommended to avoid applying nail varnish if you have a nail condition.
Procedures such as skin biopsy, cosmetic procedures, skin cancer surgery, and other skin treatments may incur a gap fee. Private health insurance is not required. Please note that if a procedure is deemed purely cosmetic, Medicare does not allow any payment, and a private account will be issued.
Histological assessment is routinely performed on all tissue samples via Clinipath pathology, and this service is bulk billed for eligible healthcare card holders. We provide a copy of the histology report to all patients and communicate with your regular GP or other specialists if required.
All operations are performed under local anesthesia in our modern theater room. Sedation is generally not warranted, so most patients can drive to and from the clinic on the day of the procedure without requiring an extra driver. General anesthesia is not available at our clinic, but we can refer patients with specific requirements if needed.
Our surgical expertise includes skin biopsies, simple ellipses, flaps, and skin grafts. Facial surgery involving flaps is a routine part of our practice. We also provide aftercare at minimal cost to our patients.
As a member of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia, we strive to provide the best treatment currently available. We understand that coming for a skin check can be unnerving, so our friendly staff is here to assist you with all your concerns and questions.
All skin checks are bulk-billed, and a small gap fee applies to surgical procedures, varying depending on the nature of the surgery required.
Skin cancer comes in different forms, with basal cell carcinoma being the most common but least dangerous. It appears as round or flattened lumps or scaly spots, often red, pale, or pearly in color. They may become ulcerated, bleed, and fail to heal. Basal cell carcinoma grows slowly over months or years and is usually found on the upper body, head, or neck.
Squamous cell carcinoma is less common but more dangerous than basal cell carcinoma, with a 1 to 2 percent chance of spreading and causing death. Look for scaly red areas that may bleed easily, ulcers, or non-healing sores that are often painful. Squamous cell carcinoma grows over a period of months and is often found on lips, ears, and scalp.
Melanoma is the least common but most serious form of skin cancer. It can appear in a new or existing spot, freckle, or mole that changes color, size, or shape. If left untreated, cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body. Melanoma can grow anywhere on the body over weeks to months, not just in areas that receive lots of sun exposure. It occurs more frequently on the upper back in males and on the lower leg in females.

"I had three moles removed from my face at the Byford Skin Cancer Clinic and have received the best services ever by Dr Buters & Patrick. Before visiting the Clinic I was concern about the scaring and was not even sure if I was going to go through the procedure. I can proudly say that I made the best decision ever by visiting Dr Buters. I'm very happy with the results. Dr Buter & Patrick have done amazing job, they are very professional, caring and supportive which definitely helped me go through this. Not just that the overall services and results are excellent the cost is a lot less then what I was asked everywhere else. Thank you so much for looking after me, it is very much appreciated."
