Wilfred Taylor Reserve Nature Playspace Morphett Vale, South Australia 5162
About the Business
Welcome to the Wilfred Taylor Reserve Nature Playspace, located in Morphett Vale, South Australia. This exciting project has been made possible through the generous support of the State Government, contributing $1.3 million towards its construction, and the City of Onkaparinga, committing $900,000 for supporting infrastructure such as carparking, access roads, and lighting.
We are incredibly grateful for the community's feedback, patience, and support in bringing this vision to life. We are planning on holding an official opening towards the end of this year, pending government restrictions related to COVID-19.
The nature playspace is just one component of the wider Wilfred Taylor Reserve Master Plan, which was approved in November 2019 and outlines a long-term vision for this popular 60 hectare site. Construction of the playspace has been progressing steadily, with various elements nearing completion.
The Hills to Beach water play area is almost finished, with the sandpit play deck taking shape and planting beds underway. The junior nature play area is also coming together, featuring a dry creek and new timber crossing. Our contractor has even hidden a surprise in the creek for the adventurous to discover.
The sensory garden is now complete, and we are excited to showcase artworks from Aboriginal artist Allan Sumner in the garden very soon. Custom play equipment, such as the Possum Hangout and Farm Village, has been fabricated and is being installed. These pieces, including a tractor and Farm Village, are truly impressive.
Additionally, the Cheese Factory Studio Gallery has been hard at work creating unique pieces, such as a xylophone and snellen chart, which will be integrated into the playspace. Installation of all play equipment, including swings, seesaws, and a double flying fox, has also commenced.
Throughout February and March, progress continued at a steady pace. The Hills to Beach water play area is well underway, with the sandpit, dingos cave, steps, balance beams, and planting beds taking shape. The finishing touches, including the installation of sand play equipment, will be completed in March.
We have also relocated existing shelters and installed new shelters over picnic areas, ready for the new barbeques and picnic tables. The sensory garden is nearing completion, with rock work, log seating, and raised planters now in place. Artworks from Allan Sumner will soon add a special touch to the garden.
Construction of the custom play equipment, Possum Hangout, and Farm Village is ongoing, with installation expected in late March. The demolition of the old play equipment has been completed, and a new access road from Wheatsheaf Road is now open to the public. The second car parking area on the western side is also nearing completion.
As we work towards the full completion of the Nature Playspace in mid-2020, we are also focusing on the irrigation system for the new open space area and picnic area next to the Morphett Vale Railway.
We invite you to come and experience the Wilfred Taylor Reserve Nature Playspace, a place where children can connect with nature, engage in imaginative play, and create lasting memories.

Reviews
"I love that they have incorporated the trees and the sandpit isn't completely sand. It's kind of a gritty rock, which is cleaner."
"Hands down the best playground in Onkaparinga. (along with Jubilee playground in Noarlunga) Also don't forget that this connects to the nearby coast to vines rail trail and Christie's creek linear trail."
"Great playground for older children!"
"This is a fantastic reserve with a nature play space, fenced playground for younger children which includes great play equipment as well as open ended natural resources, trees and logs and grassed areas. Outside there is a larger play ground aimed at older kids, as well as some magnificent tree carvings. We also enjoyed exploring the dog obedience track and watching model cars at the model car club track. Just an excellent play area for kids of all ages. We will be back!"
"Great place to ride the trains. The kids love it."
