About the Business
Welcome to the Mother and Baby Unit, a renowned establishment located at Murdoch, Robin Warren Drive, 21 in Australia. As a health-focused institution, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to mothers and their babies during their most vulnerable and transformative stages of life.
At the Mother and Baby Unit, we understand the unique needs and challenges that new mothers and their infants face. Our team of highly skilled professionals, led by Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group Professor of Mental Health and Consultant Psychiatrist, Professor Wai Chen, and Psychiatry Specialist Registrar Dr Kiri Von Klier, is committed to ensuring the well-being and mental health of both mother and baby.
We recognize that every individual experiences, interacts with, and interprets the world in different ways. That is why we prioritize creating a safe and inclusive environment for neurodivergent young people, providing them with the support and understanding they need to thrive.
In addition to our specialized care for mothers and babies, we also offer unique therapeutic approaches for rehabilitation patients. Our State Rehabilitation Service believes in empowering patients by involving them in their own healing process. As part of this approach, we provide opportunities for long-term inpatients to engage in physiological and psychological therapy, including the use of tools such as trowels.
We take pride in our research culture, constantly striving to expand our knowledge and capabilities. Our 2022 SMHS Research Report showcases the breadth and diversity of our research, highlighting the continuous growth of our research culture, capacity, and capability. We are committed to making meaningful contributions to the field of healthcare and improving the lives of our patients.
One story that touched our hearts is that of Tammie Heedes, a mother who tragically lost her sport-loving, 12-year-old son, Christopher, to asthma. In the face of this devastating loss, Tammie found solace and hope in the opportunity to help save or change lives through organ donation. Inspired by a conversation she had with Christopher months earlier, Tammie made the brave decision to donate Christopher's organs and tissues to six individuals in need. This powerful act of kindness and generosity has left a lasting impact on our community.
At the Mother and Baby Unit, we are honored to be a part of these incredible stories of resilience, compassion, and healing. We invite you to explore our website and learn more about the services and support we offer to mothers, babies, and individuals in need. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those we care for.
