About the Business
Welcome to Marion Primary School, located in the beautiful suburb of Marion, Australia. Our school is dedicated to cultivating resilience in our students, providing them with a safe, supportive, and respectful environment to thrive in.
At Marion Primary School, we believe in giving our students a voice. Through our Student Representative Council (SRC), students from all year levels actively participate in decision-making processes. The SRC meets regularly to address issues raised during classroom meetings, allowing students to contribute to the school's decision-making process and initiate projects that benefit the school and its community.
To foster connections across our student community, we have implemented a buddy program. This program pairs older students with younger ones, allowing them to work together in class groups every fortnight. This initiative not only builds relationships but also helps develop social skills and interactions between different age groups. Our PALs (Play at Lunchtimes) program further enhances student support and connections during playtime. Trained year 6 volunteers assist younger students in developing their social skills and encourage positive play centered around our Buddy Bench. This bench serves as a gathering point for students who may feel lost or unable to find someone to play with, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to connect with others through fun games or activities.
At Marion Primary School, we highly value the performing arts. Our dedicated performing arts program, led by a specialist teacher, provides weekly lessons in drama, music, media arts, and dance for students in all year levels. Additionally, students in years 3-6 have the opportunity to learn string instruments through the Department for Education Instrumental Music program. Our Senior Choir, consisting of years 5 and 6 students, performs annually in the Primary Schools Music Festival at the Festival Theatre. We also hold an end-of-year concert that showcases the talent of all class groups and our specialist music programs, bringing the entire school community together in celebration.
Technology plays a significant role in our curriculum. Our specialist teacher offers a dedicated Digital Technologies program, which includes coding and programming, for all year levels in our computer lab. Students in years R-2 have access to school iPads for specific learning tasks, while students in years 3-6 utilize school laptops across all curriculum areas. Additionally, students in years 3-6 have access to school iPads for specific learning tasks. Communication between teachers and families is facilitated through the Seesaw app, ensuring seamless interaction and updates.
As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we offer AUSLAN (Australian sign language) as our school LOTE (Language other than English). From Reception to Year 6, students have the opportunity to learn this important language.
Sports and physical activity are also emphasized at Marion Primary School. Our after-school sports program is supported by dedicated parent coaches and team managers, coordinated by our Sports Committee. Basketball is the school's focus sport for inter-school competition games, and we also participate strongly in SAPSASA competitions in athletics, cross country, and various team sports.
Our school environment is designed to promote calmness and productivity. Classrooms, shared spaces, and wet areas feature sound-absorbent features, creating a bright and light atmosphere conducive to learning. Our extensive grounds and playing areas are continuously being developed to provide students with ample space for recreation and physical activities.
