Heron Way Reserve Heron Way, Hallett Cove, South Australia 5158
About the Business
Welcome to Heron Way Reserve, located in Hallett Cove, Australia. This beautiful establishment is not only a park and point of interest but also a popular tourist attraction. Developed as part of the Hallett Cove Foreshore Master Plan, this reserve offers a range of amenities and attractions for visitors of all ages.
One of the highlights of Heron Way Reserve is its commemorative space, which serves as a venue for large-scale events such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services. The reserve also features a regional playground, complete with an iconic 5-way swing and a thrilling tunnel slide that takes you on a wild adventure down the slope. For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, there is a water play area with a sandpit and concrete features that provide a climbing challenge or seating for those who prefer to stay dry.
The reserve offers stunning ocean views as it slopes down towards the foreshore. On the western side, you'll find a sloping grassy area, perfect for picnics with a view. Most of the playground is covered by large shade sails, making it an ideal destination for a play date on a sunny day.
In addition to its recreational facilities, Heron Way Reserve also provides essential amenities for visitors. There are shelters, picnic tables, and BBQs for meals and celebrations, as well as a drinking fountain equipped with a dog drinking bowl for our furry friends. A toilet, featuring artwork relating to the geology of the area, can be found at the southern end of the reserve.
The reserve's location holds significant cultural and mythological importance to the Kaurna Aborigines. It is believed that Tjilbruke, a prominent figure in Kaurna mythology, created a fresh water spring on this beach for the people. Archaeological surveys have uncovered ancient campsites in the area, some dating back 6,000 years. Of particular interest is the presence of Pliocene sandstone, which was used by the Kaurna people to make stone tools, making this the only site in South Australia where such tools were created.
The Hallett Cove Foreshore Master Plan, which includes Heron Way Reserve, received recognition in the Parks and Leisure Australia (SA/NT) 2015 Awards of Excellence for its exceptional planning. Ongoing stormwater works are currently taking place at the reserve, ensuring its safety and accessibility for visitors.
Whether you're looking for a place to relax, play, or learn about the rich cultural history of the area, Heron Way Reserve has it all. Come and enjoy the breathtaking views, the fantastic playground, and the wonderful facilities that make this reserve a must-visit destination in Hallett Cove. "Very nice and clean playground. Has great areas for kids to climb and explore, as well as a large grassed area for them to roll down. The playground has everything kids need to stay busy for a while. There’s great views, toilets and a bbq area. Very close to the Boatshed Cafe where they serve excellent coffee and food"
"This is a beautiful family friendly spot for all to enjoy. A nice Playground situated in front of the ocean with plenty of well maintained lawn for activities or just to sit and capture the views. There are plenty of benches along the path. Toilet facilities located at the end of path on Heron Way as well as next to the café. We walked the boardwalk for about 4km to get to this spot and arrived just before sunset. Plenty of street parking available. There is also a bbq near a shaded area just past the playground."
"Summer heat beautiful beach and snorkeling? Anyways the view is amazing but the heat not so. They are shades available and playgrounds as well. Well just get the sunscreens, hats and umbrella ready in case if youre staying long."
