"AWAY THEY GO “Away they go, number 8 gets a great start, with number 4 right on their heels. Number 3, making progress towards the back of the pack. And oh! numbers 8 and 4 have collided, they are certainly out of this race.” It’s certain that number 4 is never going to race again in the eyes of many. A broken leg, a seemingly simple fix with some surgery and rehabilition. Maybe a retirement from racing. Bang. It is clear around the track what has just happened behind closed doors. There will be no more number 4. There will be no future for number 4, as if it had a present or a past. The punters will obviously be having a field day. The underdog, as it were, number 8, won. From underdog to favourite. Number 4 was regarded as a champion, but had the same fate as 181 of its brethren did in Australia in 2021 alone. Was it a necessary death? Will anybody care? Or will it remain the norm for years, maybe decades to come? Was there a home for number 4 on the outside? Most definitely. People who would care instead of maximising their profit? Absolutely. Yet the apathy remains, and everything returns to the status quo. ‘The Industry’, it is known as. As if it was a factory, churning out identical products for use. To many, it is. To many, it is seen as a place deprived and devoid of human morals, of their capacity for goodwill and compassion. Number 4 is a statistic in the eyes of many, never to be given a true name, besides the nicknames that the spectators and officials invent to attempt to humanise the behaviour and atrocities that they’re seeing and supporting. Numbers 1 to 3, and 5 to 8 get to go “home” - If it can be called a home. Back to a cage, to remain for most of their day, until the next race comes. Number 4 will be replaced for the next race without a word. Nobody will speak of it again. Perhaps because they know what they’ve done, what they’ve deprived of number 4. Is it a liberation for number 4? Or is it a needless tragedy in the face of a potential better future? It only gets darker the deeper you dive. Of the tens of thousands of units that are pumped out by the industry, only a couple thousand will even make it to race. From there, they are raced until they either die on the track, like number 4, or they outlive their usefulness, and are killed anyway. An even smaller fraction of those tens of thousands actually escapes. It invites a natural question - What happened to the thousands that didn’t even race? I’m sure you know the answer, it’s becoming quite repetitive. Even in the present day, mass graves are not out of the question. Many have been found. Genocide to the worst degree, committed by humans in an age where many thought we’ve moved on from the dark times of our history. Those who are apathetic remain blissfully unaware. Thousands who didn’t get a chance in life. In Australia, a seemingly ‘first world’ country in it’s regulation of ‘evil’. This is just a fraction of the worldwide figures, and even then, that’s a fraction of the all-time figures. In light of all of this, a lucky few escape certain doom, and escape the industry. They see better homes, with humans that aren’t hellbent on supporting the deaths of their compatriots. However, the emphasis is on few. Will you decide to help stop the industry from continuing its mass genocide and save a number? Or will you support the unnecessary death of number 4? GOD SAVE THE GREYHOUNDS."
"Good fish n chips but the price is a bit steep. Can get it cheaper elsewhere."
"Went there by chance. The chips were fresh and crunchy.. we had the couples meal. We were given 4 pieces of meaty fish. And everything was so fresh and not oily. Unfortunately we do not live close by, but we will remember this place when we are in the area."
"Had a lot of fish and chips around Perth and can definitely say that this is one of the best. Shop is clean, staff are nice and food always tastes great. I've been coming here for quite a few years and it's always been a good experience."
