About the Business
Welcome to Perth Zen Centre Jizoan, a place of tranquility and spiritual growth located in Hamilton Hill, Burridge Way. As an establishment and place of worship, we offer a range of activities and programs to support your journey into Zen Buddhism.
At Perth Zen Centre Jizoan, we believe that there are many paths to Zen, and we welcome individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. Our daily Zen meditation sessions, known as Za-zen, provide a space for you to delve into the depths of your own mind and find inner peace.
In addition to meditation, we also offer Zen talks and programs on Zen Buddhist teachings, Zen Buddhist art, cultural arts, and social engagement. These activities aim to inspire and engage you in the rich traditions of Zen Buddhism, both within and outside of the Zen Centre.
For newcomers, we recommend attending our Aishiteru - Meeting Heart workshops. These workshops provide an introduction to Zen and offer guidance on how to incorporate Zen practices into your daily life. Once you have attended the workshop, you are welcome to join us for weekly meditation sessions, as frequently as you desire. We currently offer five public sittings per week to accommodate different schedules.
At Perth Zen Centre Jizoan, we foster a vibrant community of artists and offer coaching in traditional arts. We believe that art and Zen are deeply intertwined, and through artistic expression, we can deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
Tea has a special place in Zen Buddhism, symbolizing the simplicity and beauty of the human spirit. Tea and Zen have been connected for centuries, and at Perth Zen Centre Jizoan, we embrace the concept of 'Cha Zen Ichimi' - Tea Zen as One.
Zen is not just an individual practice, but a way of living in harmony with others. Through our interactions and shared experiences, we refine ourselves and grow together. Our community also extends to a Martial Arts group that trains in traditional Japanese Martial arts of Iaijutsu and Aikijujutsu. In this group, there is no enemy, no competition, no winning, and no losing.
Please note that the Zen Centre is also a private residency, and we kindly request that you make an appointment before visiting. This allows us to reserve time for appointments and adhere to our public schedule. If you would like more information or wish to register for one of our sittings, workshops, or other general inquiries, please let us know your interests, such as daily sitting, introduction workshops, life coaching, retreats, martial arts (Kobudo), or visual arts coaching.

"Roshi Mujyo leads authentic zazen and serious Buddhism. Mujyo is a brilliant artist, sculptor in many mediums, and has developed the garden and temple with skill and patience. He is also recognised as a highly skilled practitioner in Katori Shinto Ryu, an 800 year old kobudo martial art."
"If you are looking for an authentic Rinzai Zen temple to learn about Zen Buddhism and practice zazen in Australia, this is the place. Beautiful gardens and surrounds created by Mujyo Roshi and community. Go check it out!"
"A real Zen experience you can join. Head monk Mujyo trained in Japan has excellent skills of Bukkyo and Japanese culture. Highly recommend you to experience zazen and Kobudo and Shakyo."
"Great place to go. The people that frequent are dedicated to making changes in themselves and the world through meditation and conscious living, while being very welcoming to people who are interested in learning more about Buddhism or just want to spend some time in a quiet place away from a loud and busy world."
"Very freindly. Many times to zazen and listen to Mujyosan teisho. Good training place for Zen. I think in Australia there are not many Buddhist training place and Jizoan is number 1. It is good combination of Japanese and Australian."
