About the Business
Welcome to The University of Adelaide - Waite Campus, located in Urrbrae, South Australia. As the largest concentration of agriculture and wine research and teaching expertise in the Southern Hemisphere, our institution is a hub of innovation and excellence.
The Waite Research Precinct, also known as The Waite, is a vibrant community of organizations and centers dedicated to world-class research and development. Our researchers focus on plant biotechnology, cereal breeding, sustainable food and agriculture, wine, horticulture, and natural resource sciences. This collaborative environment fosters groundbreaking discoveries and advancements in these critical fields.
Named in honor of Peter Waite, the Waite Agricultural Research Institute was established in 1924 after Mr. Waite generously bequeathed Urrbrae House and 300 acres of land to the University of Adelaide. His vision was to promote education and the study of agriculture, forestry, and related subjects. Today, we continue to uphold his legacy by providing exceptional learning opportunities in these areas.
Our campus spans across 184 hectares in the picturesque Adelaide foothills, offering breathtaking views of the sea and the city. Despite its serene location, the Waite Research Precinct is just seven kilometers southeast of the bustling North Terrace campus and the Adelaide CBD. This convenient proximity allows our students and researchers to easily access the resources and opportunities available in the city.
At the heart of our institution's teaching and research in viticulture and oenology is the Coombe Vineyard and Hickinbotham Roseworthy Wine Science Laboratory. These state-of-the-art facilities provide hands-on experience and practical training for our students, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in the wine industry.
The Waite's research capabilities are unmatched, and we offer outstanding opportunities for dynamic education and training. Our Faculty of Sciences, as well as the schools of agriculture, food and wine, and biological sciences, work together to provide a comprehensive and enriching learning experience for our more than 800 students. Whether you are pursuing an undergraduate, postgraduate, masters, or PhD degree, you will find a supportive and stimulating environment to further your education and career.
