Reviews
"I did not think I would be reviewing a club lounge after my stay, but seeing as it is listed on Google, I may as well get into it. As another review has pointed out, the lounge is lush and luxurious. Bearing in mind, at this stage the hotel has been open for only 6 months, and through a lockdown at least. Hopefully the worst of that is behind us. I have given the club a generous 4 stars. I say generous, because what you pay for and what you get right now leaves a lot to be desired, but I have seen changes in the past month alone between two separate visits that I think means they're tracking in the right direction. First, let's start with the issues. This is a brand new hotel, the first new 5 star hotel in Adelaide to open in 30 years, yet everything is undersize. No, I don't mean the rooms, I mean the lounge, the gym, the pool – look for a separate review on the hotel. They've opened at what we hope is the end of COVID-19, so they're short on staff, but guests who have paid for club rooms, or have it based on status should probably be your most important to please? Yet the lounge doesn't even open until 3pm. There's no quiet workspace for those paying premium prices to work and grab a snack, instead you're shunted to the lobby bar that's dare I say it, even smaller! When I arrive at a Sofitel, especially a new one, I expect to check-in at Club Millésime. That didn't happen, on either visit. I also expect breakfast in the lounge, which also didn't happen. For more on the delightful – or not – Garçon Bleu, please see my other reviews. So, first service of the day so far is Le Goûter (afternoon tea). The staff at this service are all wonderful, and one in particular even remembered me between visits a month apart. I have no issues with the staff, other than a 10+ minute wait for service the last time I went for tea, despite very few others in the lounge. The presentation of food has improved between March (a plate) and April (a tower), but this is still not a buffet like other Sofitels. Tea was brought to me in a cup and saucer, instead of a pot, perhaps a small nitpick, but a pot of tea would be far more useful to me in enjoying some more. The next service is Apero Chic (happy hour – usually two hours). On my first stay at the hotel, this consisted of a plate of food brought to the table, but by the second visit they had successfully transitioned to cold canapés at the buffet bar and hot food items still brought from the kitchen – one such item was a mini party pie. On my first stay this was a 2-hour window between 5 and 7, however by my second stay they had worked out that the club lounge was too small, so they required guests with club access to pre-book a session of either 5-6:30 or 6:30-8. I don't think I need to point out the inadequacy of this arrangement but I do think it's worth noting that this is a brand new building that they have grossly misjudged the size of the spaces in. At this stage, I don't think paying for a club floor is worth the money, but I hope that in time it will be."
"The service is outstanding and it would have to be the classiest hotel lounge in Adelaide. It’s thoughtfully decorated with lush furniture and designs. The views across the city and Adelaide Hills are spectacular especially during sunset drinks. The let down was the food - when the website says canapés - set your expectation to receive just one of each. You can have as many nuts as you please but I don’t feel as if this aligns to the ‘luxurious’ way that they lounge is positioned. The lounge package, however, is worth it for the drinks and buffet breakfast the next day."
