"THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY ADULT LIFE Straight after moving into Hall a member of staff (Amal Aqeeli) shouted at me "THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR WHITE PEOPLE .GO AWAY". This was the start of two years and three months of racial abuse. Instead of being helpful in any way, other students spent all their time pressuring me to leave, while the staff constantly pressured me to stay. Be warned: the principal of University Hall, Mark Sampson, is a psychopath. Every single word he says is a lie. Every word is a lie. He is charming, and takes credit for the hard work you - the student - put in. He is prepared to say, literally anything, and twist whichever emotions are necessary to get you to not leave University Hall ever. Mark appears to physically break down crying at the thought of you leaving. He uses this tactic (and others) to emotionally blackmail you to stay at University Hall. Yet, if you are suffering, and even suicidal, there is NOBODY in the entirety of University Hall you can talk to. The other residents and members of staff simply tell you, flatly "NO. YOU DON'T NEED TO TALK TO ANYONE. STOP COMPLAINING". The staff are in complete denial. The staff think Hall is a warm and welcoming family for everyone. In reality, almost every social interaction I had at Hall featured racism against me and people of my ethnicity. Racism was a daily occurrence. Staying at Hall has ruined my life. Isolation and emotional manipulation, for two years. University Hall is the worst college for UWA. I warn you: the moment you move in, the staff will say, literally anything, to get you to stay. This includes lying, and emotional blackmail. The staff are bullies through and through. You WILL have a good time, or else. And, furthermore, you DID have a good time, or else. The staff are hell, and the other students are hell, too. Mark and other staff engaged in a campaign of bullying and harassment for two years as a result of my not having a good time at Hall. I moved into Hall at 22 years of age. I had no contact with friends or family from back home. This shouldn't be an issue, as I had, in 2018, spent a year at another college, and made an abundant number of friends in that year. Hall was... Different... My time at Hall started with around three months of not talking to anybody at the college. It ended with four months of the same. In other words: I wasn't talking to people at Hall. And I wasn't talking to family or friends from home. I was talking to nobody. Parties are banned. Alcohol is banned. Relationships between students are banned. Friendships, are all but banned. It is a twisted reality, in which nothing makes sense. Whenever I asked to leave University Hall, I was emotionally blackmailed: "But everyone will miss you", "But x, and y, and z, will miss you. Do you really want to leave?" Or manipulated in other ways. As I said, my time at Hall began with three months of not talking to anyone. Members staff actively encouraged me to stay, despite knowing I wasn't in contact with my family, had no friends there, and desperately needed to talk to people. When I was at Hall, nobody even knew their neighbours names. My time at Hall ended with four months of not talking to - that's right - anyone. Because Hall is a warm welcoming community, of course. Members of staff repeatedly, sometimes five times a week, pushed me to stay. I don't understand why members of staff continually encouraged staying. Not in contact with family, and without friends, I didn't understand this was manipulation. Also, University Hall is deeply racist. It does get tiring hearing, over, and over, again: "There are too many white people in the world." And, "White people are ruining the world." And, "The world would be better with no white people." Among other comments. Of all the people repeating such messages, one was a paid member of staff of University Hall (Amal Aqeeli). These are, obviously, incredibly painful things to hear, based on something a person cannot change or decide (race)."
"University Hall offered me one of the most reliable accommodation services. The standout feature I must mention is their dedication to supporting and respecting students. They provided an impressive range of food options. As a PhD student, it became a safe haven for me during my first year at UWA. The benefits, such as easy access to the UWA campus and King's Park, meal plans, and social events, definitely outweigh the rental costs. Don't miss out on this experience."
"One of the best communities I have ever lived. Best people, cultural food, clean space, well-structured systems and organizations I lived at University Hall for one and a half years and I really miss this place."
"Everything is run relatively smoothly here. This is mainly because of Laura in the admin office who is a superb intelligent professional lady that knows every student by name. Every time I met her she made my day. Sometimes she offers chocolate to the students. She always genuinely wants to help in whatever way she can. As long as Laura works there you will be in good hands. I felt home here. I made lots of good friends. And despite the fact that many students complain about the food, I think it's not bad at all."
"The 3 years I stayed at uni hall mark some of the most memorable times of my life. I preferred it to the other colleges due to its proximity to the main campus , encouragement but no pressure from the Residential Life Coordinators (RLC's) to participate in events, and the fantastic opportunity to make life long friends."
