About the Business
Welcome to Grow Up Smiling, an establishment dedicated to improving Australia's oral health outcomes and overall well-being. Located in North Adelaide on Archer Street, our institution is a point of interest for health-conscious individuals seeking top-notch dental care.
At Grow Up Smiling, we understand the importance of oral health in a child's overall well-being. It's more crucial than you may realize, as two in five Australian children experience tooth decay in their baby teeth, and one in four in their permanent teeth. This can lead to significant pain, discomfort, and even embarrassment. However, there is no need for them to suffer. Many oral diseases, including dental caries, can be prevented and treated in their early stages through routine dental examinations, preventive care, and oral health education.
As the largest program of its kind, our onsite dental program, My School Dentist, aims to provide convenient access to oral health care and education to students at kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools. Our program specifically focuses on improving oral health outcomes and reducing the burden of poor oral health on children and adolescents, with an emphasis on lower socioeconomic, regional, and remote communities. We operate as a fully functional, award-winning mobile dental team, equipped with quality dental equipment and specially designed oral health strategies.
Our team of dedicated clinicians shares a passion for promoting good oral health and providing quality dental care, giving children and teenagers the best opportunity for a healthy start to life. As a registered health promotion charity, the Australian Dental Foundation strives to prevent oral diseases and improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged Australians.
All participating students receive dental care at no out-of-pocket expense, regardless of their eligibility for the Child's Dental Benefit Schedule and/or health cover. Since its inception, My School Dentist has significantly improved the oral health of numerous Australian children and teenagers, ensuring their health and well-being into adulthood.
When My School Dentist visits your child's school, they will undergo an initial dental check-up during school hours. Depending on your child's needs, our services may include x-rays, cleaning, fluoride treatment, dietary advice, and oral hygiene instruction. Additionally, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides eligible children with financial assistance of up to $1,013 for basic dental services over a two-year period. These services include check-ups, x-rays, teeth cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, and extractions. Please note that orthodontic or cosmetic dental work is not covered under this program.
To determine your child's eligibility for My School Dentist, our team will check on your behalf. You can also confirm eligibility by accessing your Medicare online account at my.gov.au or by calling the Medicare general enquiries line at 132 011. Even if your child is not eligible for the CDBS, they can still participate in the My School Dentist program at no out-of-pocket expense, with or without healthcare.
Please note that My School Dentist does not include orthodontic or cosmetic dental services. If your child requires an orthodontic assessment, we can refer them to a local orthodontist.
Parents are not required to attend their child's appointment, but if you wish to do so, please specify this on the consent form. Our team will then arrange a suitable time for you and your child to see the dentist together.
If My School Dentist is visiting your child's kindergarten, primary school, or secondary school, your child will receive a patient pack. Please ensure all forms inside are filled out and return the envelope to your child's school before the deadline.
Schools and kindergartens interested in hosting the My School Dentist program can register their interest by completing and emailing a registration form. Our dentist and dental assistant will visit your school or kindergarten to deliver onsite oral health care in a minimum 3m x 3m room with running water. An Australian Dental Foundation representative will work closely with your school or kindergarten to ensure minimal disruption to your students, in compliance with National Standards (NSQHS), local regulations, and site requirements.
At My School Dentist, we prioritize the oral health of students and offer an initial dental check-up during school hours. Our services may include x-rays, cleaning, fluoride treatment, dietary advice, and oral hygiene instruction. Our program is free for all public and private schools and kindergartens, with no cost to host our program onsite. All participating students, regardless of their eligibility for the CDBS, receive dental care at no out-of-pocket expense.
While teachers are not required to attend their student's appointment, we can arrange a suitable time for parents and students to see the dentist together if desired.
At Grow Up Smiling, we are committed to improving Australia's oral health outcomes and ensuring the well-being of children and adolescents. Join us in our mission to provide accessible, high-quality dental care and education to all.
