About the Business
Welcome to The Cumberland Hotel, affectionately known as The Cumby, located in Glanville, Australia. Under the leadership of local identity Diane Lintern, who previously operated The Cumby as a thriving entertainment hub in the 90's and 00's, our institution offers a unique experience that combines a bar, lodging, and a point of interest.
At The Cumby, we take pride in serving ice-cold tap beer, great wine, and spirits. Our pub features live music, creating a vibrant atmosphere for our guests to enjoy. One of our highlights is our two fantastic outdoor areas, including a brilliant beer garden at the rear and our meeting place at the front, both surrounding our inviting front bar.
The Cumberland Hotel, also known as The Cumby Pub, has played a significant role in the community's history along the Port River since South Australia's formative years. Originally built at the edge of the Port Rivers swamp-front, the pub stood witness to the growth of the Port as land was reclaimed to build the existing harbor. Today, it stands proudly on solid ground, directly across from Glanville train station.
In its early days, our hotel served not only as a place to enjoy colonial ale but also as an auction house for local land allotments, a coroner's office during suspicious deaths, a maternity facility, and a meeting venue for town officials, clubs, committees, and workers from the shipyards.
Conveniently located less than 25 meters from the train station and our iconic river, The Cumby is the perfect destination to start or finish your journey to the Port Adelaide or Semaphore shopping and entertainment precincts. Whether you decide to explore the vibrant surroundings or simply spend a leisurely afternoon or evening at our pub, we guarantee a memorable experience.
The Cumberland Hotel has been an integral part of Port Adelaide and the LeFevre Peninsula since 1870. On September 12th, 1870, John Gowling applied for the first liquor license at the Cumberland Hotel, with representation from Messrs. Cullen and J.W. Downer. Despite opposition from Mr. Goldsworthy, the owner of the Glanville Hotel, and Mr. Reynolds, the owner of the Lord Exmouth Hotel, the license was granted, making John Gowling the first legitimate publican of The Cumberland Hotel.
During the same year, the Port Adelaide Football Club was established, forming a joint Australian football and cricket club. The club's first training session took place two days after its establishment, with the first match against a team from North Adelaide on May 24th, 1870.
At The Cumberland Hotel - The Cumby, we are committed to providing a memorable experience for our guests. Join us to indulge in our offerings, soak in the rich history of the area, and create lasting memories.

"Good atmosphere, good beer, good staff. Perfect pub recipe"
"The selection item mentioned salad with the schnitzel, and I expected a lettuce, cucumber, tomato etc instead of coleslaw. Other than the coleslaw, the schnitzel and chips were pretty good."
"Very happy with the service and the food will be back You know you can go"
"The bleached blonde haired bar Maid was extremely rude non hospitable and tried to charge me for a Water when I was playing pokies in the gaming room. She also would not let me get money out from the bar eftpos machine. She rudely pointed to the ATM machine get it out of there she screamed. Todd was an awesome front of house barman. He should be promoted."
