About the Business
Welcome to Kent Street Weir Park, a must-visit establishment and tourist attraction located in Wilson, Western Australia. Situated on Kent Street, this park offers a unique experience for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and families alike.
At Kent Street Weir Park, we provide you with the practical knowledge and skills needed to explore Western Australia's national parks confidently, responsibly, and safely. Whether you enjoy fishing, boating, paddling, snorkelling, or diving, our park offers a range of activities to cater to your adventurous spirit.
One of the highlights of our park is the Kent Street Weir itself. This impressive structure was built to stop saltwater from pushing upstream, protecting the freshwater plants and animals that call the Canning River Regional Park their home. Thanks to the weir, the water upstream remains relatively fresh, particularly during the winter months when rainfall is abundant. As you walk or cycle across the weir, you'll be able to witness the stunning transformation of the river and its surroundings.
Aside from the weir, Kent Street Weir Park boasts various amenities and attractions for visitors. Enjoy a leisurely picnic on the lush grass, purchase refreshments from our cozy café, or launch your canoe for a peaceful paddle on the river. We also provide barbecues, sheltered picnic tables, and a children's playground for your convenience and enjoyment.
For those interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Canning River and its ecosystem, a visit to the Canning River Eco Education Centre is a must. This center offers educational activities and aims to increase awareness and appreciation of the river's natural wonders.
If you're looking for a unique experience, make sure to hop on the Castledare Miniature Railway. With over 5km of track, two railway stations, and charming features such as signal boxes and turntables, this miniature railway will transport you through Fern Lagoon and back.
To make the most of your visit, plan your trip accordingly and consider traveling with a personal location beacon (PLB) for added safety. We want to ensure that you have a memorable and enjoyable experience while exploring the park.
If you're interested in the diverse species that inhabit the area surrounding Kent Street Weir, you can find a comprehensive list on the Atlas of Living Australia website. Discover the incredible biodiversity within a 5km radius of our park.
Accessibility is important to us, which is why we have a continuous accessible path that provides easy access to public toilets, the Canning River Café, the Canning River Eco Education Centre, and various walking trails.
Lastly, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Whadjuk people, the traditional owners of the Canning River Regional Park, and all Aboriginal communities throughout Western Australia. We recognize their deep connection to the land, waters, and community.
Come and experience the beauty and tranquility of Kent Street Weir Park. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a deeper understanding of Western Australia's natural wonders, our park has something for everyone.

"Beautiful location with facilities like kiddy play area, benches, and bbq setups. There is a dog play area which is really big (though lacks an airlock gate) , and is for all sized dogs (shared area). Took my puppers along the paved walks and had a lovely time. It is wetlands here though so I would suggest considering bug repellent. There is a café here that is really nice (and dog friendly!)."
"Great outing with the kids and riding the trains as much as you want, good value but take glasses if your going on the steam train! Spits little hot embers that fly into your face if your unlucky. Sit at the back!!!"
"A lovely spot that’s a well hidden gem near Wilson, this park is a good spot for family with kids or anyone who’s after a restful day. There’s a cafe next to the car park for those who wants the convenience, while theres ample space for picnic area. The canning river eco education centre nearby also offers a nice spot for workshop or kids activities during school holiday or weekend. Very dog friendly place too with many dog owners around."
"Great place to go for a walk with your fur baby or kids/children. You can see lots of native birds and plants. There is a lovely cafe and playground as well. There is a on lead and off lead dog area. Great from all things outdoors from a canoe or even just a picnic with the family."
"Kent st Canning River Cafe and dog area is amazingly pretty, quiet and peaceful. Can be social or a spot to get away at walking over the bridge through the woodlands for a river walk. Doggo area has been positive each time :)"
