"My experience at the Princess Alexandra hospital ED department and Women's Mental Health ward is appalling. I was admitted into ED after being involuntarily removed from my home by ambulance after giving birth via C Section to my baby 2 weeks ago. I waited in ED admitting area for over 2 hours and experienced a re traumatising episode due to my past experiences in the public mental health system. I was then admitted into ED where I recieved a psych evaluation. The psychiatrists on call twisted mine and my partners and my private treating teams words to fit a diagnosis they fabricated then involuntarily admitted me into their public women's hospital with no basis. They ignored me when I said I had private health care and a private psychiatrist referall sent that very day. Never was I offered pain relief for the excruciating amount of pain I was in due to giving birth. I was in the ED for FIVE HOURS without appropriate support or medication to treat my wounds and body after being 2 weeks post partum. They then put me on an involuntary order and kept me away from my baby and husband. They womens ward is understaffed and absolutely appalling. There were women screaming in pain, there was one aboriginal girl who punched a wall so hard her hand was broken. All women were doped up and talking about how their psychiatrists don't listen to them. I slept with 3 other women in the middle of the vicinity as I was so traumatised and terrified. I will ensure my voice is heard as I called Ryan's Rule that night and I will be sure to speak up to contribute to the prevention of mistreatment of women in the public health system."

"I am genuinely disgusted with my experience in the ED last night. I observed multiple people who were in genuine need for help leave due to the long wait times. I witnessed staff being dismissive and rude to those waiting. Triage alone took around 30 minutes to even be seen. While I had to wait a long time (around 7 hours to be seen) I understood that based on the needs of others. However, once I was “in” I was seen by a student nurse (she was very polite and helpful) who mentioned they were going to run some tests on me. So I waited, for another 1.5 hours only to be told by a doctor that essentially they weren’t going to run any tests and that I should go back to my GP. I understand under funding. But my God. This hospital was worse than what I’ve seen in third world countries."
"I understand there are priorities over me. But I’ve been here since 3PM yesterday, and have watched everyone be dealt with & leave happily within no time.. it’s now hit 20Hrs sitting in this ER. I have watched every single person that came before me since I got here in the Ambulance leave & new patients that come hours after me, get admitted before me. No sleep & was told no food since 10PM last night for a surgery that still has not happened !!!!!! It is now 11:42AM. All I need is a few stitches they said SO WHY HAVE I BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 20Hrs JUST FOR “A CLEAN & FEW STITCHES” ???!!!"
