About the Business
Welcome to Casey Anderson Psychotherapy, located in Carlton, on Cardigan Street. As an establishment dedicated to health and well-being, we are a point of interest for individuals seeking a compassionate and insightful approach to psychotherapy.
At Casey Anderson Psychotherapy, we understand that there are numerous reasons why someone may choose to see a psychotherapist. There are no right or wrong reasons; instead, psychotherapy provides an invitation to speak openly about our worries, troubles, and the things that truly matter to us.
Casey Anderson takes a psychoanalytic approach to psychotherapy, which involves attentive listening to understand an individual's inner life, particularly their unconscious thoughts and emotions. This method can be particularly beneficial in working through unresolved feelings and discovering the hidden causes of symptoms, ultimately providing relief from depression, anxiety, somatic disorders, and repetitive relationship issues.
Through Casey's thoughtful and non-judgmental presence, individuals can develop self-awareness and a compassionate view of themselves. This process allows for lasting positive changes in how they feel within themselves and how they relate to others.
With experience working in diverse settings with children, adolescents, adults, and couples, Casey has gained a deep understanding of what it means to be human. She believes that we are unique and complex beings with a natural desire for connection, even when it feels challenging.
Casey is a clinical member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and adheres to their code of ethics. She holds a BA in Social Science with a major in Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as a Graduate Diploma of Psychotherapy.
Psychoanalysis, the foundation of Casey's treatment approach, was originally conceptualized by Viennese physician and neurologist Sigmund Freud. It is based on the belief that our present experiences are shaped by past relationships and experiences. Psychoanalysis is an in-depth, long-term process typically involving sessions more than once per week. Psychoanalysts undergo extensive training, including personal psychoanalytic treatment, theoretical coursework, and supervised practice.
Psychotherapy draws on various philosophical and theoretical frameworks to understand what it means to be human. There are different approaches to psychotherapy, such as person-centered, systemic, psychodynamic, existential, and play therapy. Most university psychotherapy trainings involve personal psychotherapy to ensure therapists have the necessary self-awareness to effectively and ethically work with others.
Psychoanalytic therapy exists because there is suffering. It addresses mental and physical agony that cannot be explained by biological causes. Whether seeking therapy due to agony, crisis, or a desire for self-discovery, psychoanalytic therapy offers a safe space to speak and be heard without judgment. By developing self-awareness and a compassionate view of oneself, individuals can make lasting positive changes in how they perceive themselves and relate to others.
To arrange a first meeting, please contact us by telephone or email. During this session, we will discuss your situation, explore the possibilities of working together, and answer any questions you may have.
Sessions typically last 50 minutes and occur on the same day and at the same time each week. We kindly request 24 hours notice for cancellations; otherwise, the full session fee will be charged. If rescheduling is possible within the same week, we will do our utmost to accommodate.
Time is an important factor in psychoanalytic therapy. As it engages with the unconscious mind to facilitate change, analysis does not offer quick fixes. However, it does provide profound and transformative change that shorter-term treatments often cannot. The length of therapy will vary based on individual circumstances but typically involves several years of treatment.
At Casey Anderson Psychotherapy, we are here to support you on your journey towards self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. Contact us today to begin your path towards a more fulfilling life.
