About the Business
Welcome to Tracey Alder Therapy, located at 636 Saint Kilda Road in Melbourne, Australia. As an establishment focused on health and well-being, we are here to provide the support you need when you need it most. Our team consists of EMDR trained, trauma informed therapists who specialize in working with couples and families.
At Tracey Alder Therapy, we recognize the undeniable correlation between trauma and addictive behaviors. Whether it is substance abuse, behavioral addictions such as gambling or sex, or relationship-driven dependencies, trauma often lies at the root of these struggles. Even if individuals haven't experienced significant trauma in their lives, the experience of addiction itself can be traumatizing for everyone involved. Families are particularly affected, with relationships becoming strained and trust being broken. This can lead to increased anxiety, depression, and a sense of being stuck.
As a therapist, I understand how trauma impacts our minds, bodies, and our perception of the world and ourselves. If you find yourself unable to bear witness to the destructive effects of addiction on your family, struggling to manage disruptions in daily life, or feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to stop using, we are here to help.
Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that brings families and couples together to learn new ways of understanding and communicating. Addiction creates attachment wounds that leave everyone confused and exhausted. We believe that healing cannot happen in isolation or in psychologically unsafe environments. Our aim is to help you regain trust, create safety, and facilitate healing for strung-out nervous systems so that families and couples can begin to co-regulate and connect again. Our approach is gentle, non-judgmental, and focused on creating lasting change.
I, Tracey Alder, am an attachment-based, trauma-informed family and couple therapist with fifteen years of experience working with families in distress. I am also trained in EMDR, a highly effective therapy for processing traumatic experiences. My qualifications include a Master of Family Therapy from Swinburne University, a Master of Health Education and Health Promotion from Edinburgh University, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Strathclyde University, Glasgow. I am a full member of the Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Association of Australia (EMDRAA) and an associate member of the Association of Australian Family Therapy (AAFT).
I am available for consultations in the South East Bayside region of Melbourne, as well as through telehealth/online sessions.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge and pay my respects to the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we operate, the Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation.
If you are ready to make a positive change in your life and the lives of your loved ones, contact Tracey Alder Therapy today. Together, we can navigate the journey towards healing and recovery.

Reviews
"Tracey worked with our family of 5 (my husband and me and our 3 adult children their 20's) for over a year on Zoom. We were in different locations and it was during lockdowns. It was the most wonderful experience for us all - challenging at times but very worthwhile. We all felt safe and supported as we explored many aspects of our family dynamics. We already had a strong and loving family unit and sought support from Tracey to navigate some challenges we were experiencing. With her skilful expertise we uncovered and unpacked some key things which enabled us to strengthen our relationships. She offered counsel without ego, was able to reflect things back in a really gentle way and led us through some difficult conversations. We are now well equipped to better support each other and communicate more clearly as we enjoy this phase of a family of 5 adults. We all felt sad when we finished working with Tracey and have agreed that we would like to do 6 or 12 monthly check ins!"
