"Wish I could give a 0. Brian talked AT us and actually "shooshed" me when I tried to speak. He made no effort to get to know our 12 year old daughter for her ADHD diagnosis. He was more concerned about her getting over 93 for an ATAR score, because "all of his patients have received at least 93". He asked her if she wanted to be in the "top 10-15% of the class or receive a Degree in Mediocrity?" He actually used those words. Not once did he ask about classroom behaviour, diet, friends, sports, art, favourite subjects or if we were even planning to go for an ATAR score. His repeated use of the word "success" and being "successful" was in relation to studies and professional working life, whereas being a "success" should be being a well rounded human who can manage their lives, not what score they walk out of year 12 with. There was zero effort to get to know his patient. He gave us his speech and at the end told her not to use ADHD as an excuse and not to blame other things for her behaviour. Brian let me speak for about 1 minute in total and probably asked my daughter 2 questions. When a child is trying hard at this thing called life, being told her life outside of school is "trash" is upsetting. Children don't want to feel like they aren't trying hard enough when it's actually the way their brains are made that's making life, as Brian says, "trash". My daughter did a really good job of not bursting in to tears during the appointment, she saved it for the waiting room. The list of information Brian gave us to request from her teachers would be appropriate for an 8 year old boy who might be disruptive in class, not a 12 year old girl who carries it internally. When Brian said that people with ADHD aren't usually creative, it was then that I realised he must have little understanding of neurodiverse children. He also said he was going to sack his receptionist for typing my name in to the system incorrectly. Although a joke, throwing your staff under the bus is a reflection of you and not your staff. Every other paediatrician we called had a waiting list of at least a year, Brian was 3 weeks. We should have realised it was too good to be true. We didn't make follow up appt but his office never contacted us anyway. Don't bother emailing the referral as he doesn't check it anyway."
"Dr Timms helped look after both our newborns and we found him to be approachable and caring with a sense of humour. Highly recommend Dr Timms as a paediatrician for infants."
"A combination of ignorance and arrogance towards both my daughter and myself. Our entire appointment was spent being talked out about his medical degree and people who were successful and how my recently diagnosed ADHD daughter just had to get more organised and try harder. My teenage daughter burst into tears as we left. He took 3 phone calls during our appointment and on one of them mentioned another patients full name and diagnosis. It was appalling. He hadn’t read the report the educational psychologist had completed but started the appointment by stating well is it really ADHD? Not many questions asked, but lots of him talking. I am glad I had a teenager who was able to verbalise her discomfort with this “doctor”. He even made a sarcastic remark that the name of the psychologist (a European sounding name), “was a good Australian name”. Time to step away from dealing with children. Maybe go lecture somewhere as you seem to like the sound of your own voice. The report that you didn’t read was incomplete but the diagnosis was quite clear as you yourself have stated in your response. I am not happy returning to someone who lacks the professionalism to not answer his phone during the time I am paying for, and them mention others patients names and their diagnosis. I also don’t need to spend 75 minutes listening to your resume. Your suggestions were not dismissed and we do not want a miracle cure, but they are also what we already now and have begun implementing. We didn’t need to pay over $300 for that information. We both live with someone who has achieved great things in his life with this condition, we just don’t need to see a doctor who asks so few questions and talks about irrelevant nonsense."
"If I could give 0 stars I would. It has taken me months to come and write this review as my son, husband and I were SO angry and astonished by the lack of professionalism and compassion shown by Brian. I have come back now because I am still quite shaken by the experience and want to warn other families to STAY AWAY. My son (12yrs old) struggles with anxiety and it has slipped into depression, he has been seeing a psychologist for three years. She recommended we see a pediatrician to try to get some further clarity around his depression and to ask for guidance about how to help my son sleep better. Being a new client we assumed Brian would have looked through the notes our son’s psychologist had sent though. He had not. Brian then opened the notes on his computer but didn't bother reading them saying, ‘you may as well just tell me why you’re here’, so we did… Brian was incredibly dismissive when we shared about our son’s mental health struggles, sarcastically saying things like “yes but all kids are depressed or ADHD or something nowadays”. I was taken aback and explained that I had had depression in the past and thought that it shouldn’t be disregarded especially since my son had been having suicidal idealations. Brian’s exact words were “it’s amazing what kids can learn off the internet isn’t it?” We were HORRIFIED! How can this man practice medicine and be dismissive of mental health issues and be so callous and reckless with his words? My son sat there in tears and Brian just ignored it. He even had the audacity to answer a mobile call during our session and then went on to complain to us because it was a tele-marketer/sales call. We left the appointment feeling so dejected. I was dumbfounded that Brian could still have clients. I assume he must solely work with babies, clearly he doesn't have the expertise or empathy needed to listen to the concerns of a pre teen. I know parents/children are on long waiting lists to see pediatricians at the moment. My heart hurts for you all as you wait to get help for your child, but PLEASE AVOID seeing Brian Timms. This man just added further angst to our family and should NOT BE PRACTICING medicine. Now I have never left a review for anything before so I’m not sure how this works or if it will record my name but, just so Brian can’t claim I am hiding behind an unknown identity, I am happy to come forward to share my surname: Rushton-Smith. Brian, feel free to check your notes on an appointment back in Dec 2022 (that’s if you bothered to take any notes at all after we left)?!"
"If I could give 0 star I would. I took my son to see him as I was sure my son was Autistic. He told me he was an expert in autism. My son was just naughty and told me I was lying! Yes, he said that. I left the appointment and never went back. We did see him for several prior sessions. My mental health suffered. Kinder etc all could see my son was autistic. Thank goodness for the Royal children’s hospital. The behaviour team could see the traits straight away. Four weeks later he was fully diagnosed with level 2 autism. This so called Dr has left me anger for a long time. As it caused delays and mental health that didn’t need to happen. Please don’t take your child to see him if you feel they have developmental delays."
