"We went to see Danella for my son, and I believe what we experienced was not helpful for a child who is in distress. I expected there to be a more rapport building and gentle support to enable a 10 year old child to open up and share. However some examples: - my child was not wanting to confront his anxiety and therefore didn't answer a question, to which Danella asked, is avoidance a solution? - when he was crying, Danella offered a tissue and my son refused (due to not trusting her) at which point she said you can use your jumper or a tissue. - also when my child was crying, she said you can leave calmly or you can leave in tears. - asking me whilst my child is there, whether he often has meltdowns like the one she was seeing and how long they last for. This was not helpful to discuss in front of my child. Whilst on paper the above comments from Danella are all pragmatically correct, as an adult I felt like the way she asked would have not helped me to discuss my issues with her. I believe the way to engage with children requires a more gentle approach, especially seeing as she is supposed to be looking after kids on the spectrum who are in distress. The end result was my child never wanting to see her again."

"I was referred by a reputable paediatrician to Danella Taylor at On Track Therapy regarding emotional regulation therapy for my 8 year old daughter. In advance of my appointment I received on 5th May, a very detailed “ Initial Intake form” which I had to fill out in advance of our appointment. I filled it out online and completed and returned it on 8th May well in advance of our appointment on 18th May. Upon arrival at the deserted centre on Burke Road Glen Iris, we were greeted by a receptionist called Maria. Danella was not yet at the centre which was otherwise completely empty and eerily quiet. Danella arrived at the centre around 1.05pm (for our 1pm appointment) and proceeded to make herself a cup of coffee. Although we were offered one aswell we declined as we were there for therapy not coffee! It then turned out that my detailed “Initial intake form” hadn’t been received at the center and I was asked to email it again which I did. It then turned out my Paediatrician’s referral had also not been received and there wa a lot of to-ing and fro-ing on the Actual appointment time with this which really should have been pre-empted by the center. I had expected that given that I had been sent the initial intake form on 05/05/2020 and had returned the completed version on 08/05/2020 that the therapist would have had a background to our case history well in advance of the appointment and been ready to start from the get-go rather then fumbling along over the course of the appointment. Danella then came in with her coffee and proceeded to eat a chocolate biscuit and slurp coffee infront of us for the duration of the appointment. Maybe this is how modern day therapists operate and maybe I am missing the point, but when emotions are heightened at an occasion like going to spill your heart out to a therapist, one ought to be able to expect a degree of common respect and courtesy. Danella was pleasant and I didn’t have a problem with her manner toward my child but having scheduled a follow up appointment for a week later that subsequently I received a call to cancel due to an “emergency” I have lost hope in the system at this practice and the level of organisation seems severely lacking. I feel disrespected and I feel my child’s needs were disregarded by an overall lack of organisation and accountability on the part of the staff at this clinic. Sadly I will have to look elsewhere for treatment for my daughter. I feel aggrieved that the center has so much personal information about our family yet they seem to be so disorganised they should not be entitled to such personal information given their whimsical approach to client care."
