With his newfound expertise, John embarked on a teaching career, specializing in counseling and organizational psychology. He lectured at renowned institutions such as Monash University (Gippsland) and Victoria University for a remarkable 15 years. During this time, John also lent his expertise to various organizations, including the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, Lanes Biscuits, and EDS Aust., providing human resource consultancies and contributing to management development, career counseling, and personnel selection system design.

John's dedication to his profession extended beyond the classroom and consultancy work. He frequently collaborated with esteemed practitioners and academics, presenting at national and international conferences and publishing articles on professional practices. Career management and rehabilitation counseling became focal points in his work with trainee psychologists and in teaching applied psychology to post-graduate students.

In 1992, John established Appropriate Measures Pty Ltd, a private practice focused on individual counseling and supervision of psychologists. This venture provided career assessment and professional development services, utilizing selected psychological assessment and training techniques. In 2002, John relocated to Adelaide, where he extended his counseling services to staff members of various organizations, including Glenside Hospital, Julia Farr Centre, and IBM.

Since returning to Melbourne in 2008, John has dedicated himself to his private practice and the professional education and supervision of provisional psychologists. Throughout this period, he has developed a heightened awareness of the social and emotional aspects of clients, their relationships, and the essential role of self-care for counselors.

John's ongoing professional development has been greatly influenced by the guidance and mentorship he received from esteemed professionals.
