"Completely unprofessional. Save yourself some trauma and go elsewhere. I went to try and get assessed for adult ASD and ADHD, and had an absolutely horrible experience with Ian. On the 3rd appointment, Ian identified that I was both ‘introverted and single’, going on to say “so the boys are going to have to chase you. But men aren’t chasing women anymore because they’re afraid of ending up on the front page accused of sexual assault.” He then went on to rant about how ludicrous it is that a woman is coming forward now because she was “touched on the bottom 50 years ago.” This was the worst among other bizarre and inappropriate comments, particularly considering Ian barely knows me or if this could be a triggering topic, not to mention it’s entirely inappropriate in any therapy/assessment setting to rant about a therapist’s own opinionated ideas on controversial, triggering and potentially harmful topics. When I spoke to the practice manager and mentioned that there are other reviews to the same effect I was told “that person has borderline personality disorder. I know exactly what that’s about.” Before going on to say that working in this field, you often get dishonest reviews and being told “I’m sorry that you felt that way”. No therapist should be causing further harm to the people they should be assisting and I honestly believe it’s time for Ian to retire."
"As a veteran with PTSD, physical disabilities, and an acquired brain injury who is having on going family court dramas; I really appreciate the way Ian first built rapport, for me it was chatting about history. After that rapport and trust was established, the way he eased me into the sessions before getting into the heavy topics was not just soothing, but appreciated. Ian has helped me quit smoking through hypnotherapy, as well as writing a comprehensive psychological assessment through the use of multiple, in-depth questionnaires for the family court. Above all, Ian has taught me techniques that have allowed me to reign in my anxieties where others before him have struggled, or flat out failed to get through to me, and I believe that this is due to the aforementioned rapport, and trust. As a result, the gains to my quality of life have been incalculable. The above, coupled with Martine and the admin team has made my dealings with Bayside Psychology a pleasure."
"My experience with a man here was a disaster tbh, although my parents enjoyed and connected with him. Vital time was wasted as he echoed mainstream news stories, talking about it too much even after I raised concern. To me, the process was poorly facilitated and badly scheduled. His own bias often got in the way with topics of racism, dominance and misogyny being poorly handled. Another practitioner there was exceptional until she had to leave. I should've trusted my intuition earlier but after years of persevering there, our family relationship is worse. To me, going there was a nightmare, and I'd be silly not to share my reality. I don't normally leave reviews but after months of reflecting on our last sessions, I had to share my truth."
"I saw Ian on glowing recommendations, but that's not what I got. He would spend almost all of the session waffling about what was in the news, and then in the last 5 minutes he'd ask a couple of open ended questions about how I was doing. He was obviously not engaged and committed to helping me at all. I even allowed for 6 sessions to see if he had some master plan, but it went nowhere. The psychologist I went to after him was the complete opposite, she actually cared about me and changed my life."
