"Firstly my review has nothing to do with my assessor, Ravinder Kaur was superb, kind helpful and always ready to listen when I had a query. The theory work was also sufficient and well covered. My negative experience was during my practical with regards to the work placement workbook. The workbook is over 150 pages on questions you need to answer and while a lot of them cover what you experience in the classroom, what is expected of your supervising teacher is embarrassing and ridiculous. I don't know how ACTAC can expect working teachers to fill in such a huge document for a student. They are not being paid for it, there is a lot of repetition and once they have completed the entire file the assessors phone the supervising teacher and ask them all the same questions they had to answer in the file. It is totally understandable for students to have to put in effort and time to receive their certificate but what you are expecting of very busy teachers who are doing students a favour by allowing them to complete their practical 100 hours is unfair and unrealistic. Although I had a very understanding and supportive teacher and principal they were not impressed with what ACTAC expected of their working teachers and it made it very awkward and uncomfortable for me during my practical. The videos were also another area I thought was overkill. Not all parents are happy to sign consent forms for student teacher assistants to film their children and this made it very difficult to get all the material expected. I am happy I have completed my certificate and secured a job but I won't recommend ACTAC to anyone due to the tedious and repetitive work expected during my work placement practical and the amount of work my supervising teacher was expected to do."

"I completed a Cert 3 in School Based Education Support with ACTAC. My trainer was quite helpful, and the course went really well, I really loved how it was self paced and online. However, when I got to work placement, I have no end of trouble. The college was really really picky with the videoing, wanting so many videos that it just ridiculous! Further, when I had issues with locating an interviewee for the Indigenous education unit, ACTAC refused to understand my situation and didn't offer me any help. A lot of the content in the course, especially related to child protection and mandatory reporting isn't correct for every state either (especially not WA). I would not recommend this doing this course via this provider!"
