Welcome to Holy Spirit Seminary, Brisbane, located at Banyo on Earnshaw Road. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to be a university dedicated to preparing candidates for the Priesthood in the five dioceses of Queensland – Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, and Townsville.

Our institution reflects the diverse nature of the Catholic Church, with our student cohort being smaller in numbers, older in age, and multicultural in background. These fine men have answered the call to test their vocation in a world that often challenges faith and religion, and they possess a certain courage that lies at the willing heart of each seminarian. We, the Seminary Staff, appreciate the privilege of being chosen to journey with them.

During their formation years, our seminarians live separate lives but not isolated from normal society. We understand that recent clerical misconduct has tarnished the image of the Church, but we remain hopeful. The Resurrection of Jesus infuses fresh heart into the disciples of every age, and with the guidance of the Spirit of God, our seminarians face the future with humble confidence, supported by proven spiritual and psychological resources.

In their pursuit of reclaiming the vitality of the Church through ordained ministry, our seminarians welcome and rely on the prayerful support of families, friends, and all who love the Church and the priesthood. The formation of men for the priesthood is an essential work of the Church, and it requires the support of the entire Church community. There are three ways you can offer your support: Firstly, through your prayers, which are essential; secondly, by encouraging young men in your home, parish, or community to discern the call to priesthood; and finally, through your financial support, without which the Seminary would not be able to function. Donations can be made directly to Holy Spirit Seminary, and we kindly ask you to consider remembering this important cause in your will.

Founded in 1939, Holy Spirit Provincial (Queensland) Seminary has been a training ground for young men preparing for a life of priestly ministry in the Church in Queensland and beyond. In 2003, our original seminary buildings opened their doors to welcome the Australian Catholic University. However, in 2007, a new, vibrant, and innovative seminary campus was constructed, which was later extended in 2010.

At the heart of our new Seminary buildings lies the Oratory, where the Seminary community gathers each day for Mass and the Divine Office. Additionally, every Thursday, staff and seminarians come together in the Oratory for a Holy Hour of Adoration. During these Holy Hours, our prayer intentions focus on vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life in Queensland, as well as the intentions of our benefactors. It is within the walls of the Oratory that priestly hearts are formed by the Holy Spirit.
