At GCI, we are proud to be a large and diverse group of scholars who are passionate about addressing crime and justice issues. Through collaboration and innovation, our research aims to find solutions to universal problems. In fact, GCI has received the highest possible ranking for research quality in the Australian Research Council Excellence in Research Assessments not once, but twice, solidifying our position as a world leader in the field of criminology.
What sets our research apart is its focus on rigorous scholarship combined with engaged translation. We believe in achieving real-world change by bridging the gap between academia and practical application. Additionally, GCI is aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, and we are committed to tackling global challenges related to gender equality, reducing inequalities, peace, justice, strong institutions, and partnerships.
One of the ways we share our groundbreaking research is through GCI Insights. This platform showcases the remarkable work being conducted by our members and is designed for policymakers, industry professionals, students, and the wider public. Through briefs, spotlights, podcasts, and reports, our experts provide expert findings and commentary on key topics in criminology and criminal justice.
We are also proud to announce the establishment of the Professor Anna Stewart Scholarship. Named in honor of the esteemed researcher and former Head of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University, this scholarship aims to support First Nation candidates pursuing a PhD at Griffith University.
In addition, GCI hosts various events, such as the biennial Tony Fitzgerald Lecture. This prestigious lecture series features renowned speakers in the field of criminology, providing valuable insights and discussions. For example, the 2023 lecture was presented by Professor Susanne Karstedt from Griffith Criminology Institute, with Professor John Braithwaite from Australian National University as the discussant.
To learn more about GCI and stay updated on our initiatives, successes, and future plans, we encourage you to explore the 2022 edition of our Bulletin. It highlights the breadth and diversity of our criminology research and showcases the exciting work being done by our members.
