About the Business
Welcome to the Samford District Historical Museum, located in the heart of Samford Village on Station Street. As an establishment, museum, point of interest, and tourist attraction, our institution is a must-visit for both locals and visitors to the region.
At the Samford Museum, you will be captivated by the diverse range of objects, displays, and stories that showcase the rich history of our district. Whether you have an hour to spare or an entire day, there is so much to see and explore within our walls.
Step back in time as you learn about the early settlers who cultivated the land, constructed fences and homes, and laid the foundation for the vibrant community we have today. Our exhibits allow you to delve into life before motorized transport, with displays featuring horse-drawn carts, old-time tractors, and farm machinery.
One of the highlights of your visit will be witnessing the blacksmith at work, demonstrating the important role he played in the community. If you plan your visit on the first Sunday of each month, you can see firsthand the craftsmanship that went into creating essential tools and equipment.
Immerse yourself in our replica 1872 Samford School, meticulously constructed with slab walls and a shingle roof based on the original plans. As you sit in the classroom, you can imagine the lives of early students and teachers who shaped education in our district.
In the original Grovely train station building, our War Time Memories display showcases dioramas depicting how our local lads went off to war, highlighting their uniforms and memorabilia. This poignant exhibit pays tribute to those who served and allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of our region's wartime history.
Our dedicated team of volunteers possesses a wealth of knowledge and is eager to share it with you. Whether you are interested in researching the history of your local district or tracing your family roots, we offer access to maps dating back to 1864, as well as an extensive collection of photographs, documents, and local history publications.
A visit to the Samford Museum is an amazing experience for both adults and children alike. It provides a unique opportunity to engage with the past and gain a deeper appreciation for the way Samford was. So come and join us as we take you on a journey through time and uncover the fascinating stories that have shaped our community.

"Great little place, we loved it"
"Interesting local history. A great morning out for our whole group, entertained all 3 generations."
"One of the best museums I’ve been too so comprehensive and yet it’s free of charge. The volunteers were so nice and friendly gave me a lot of information about what the village was like and what it has become. They did warn me about an arrogant culture within the area which I discovered for myself at the arts craft shop. One of the volunteers sat down to have a good long chat with me. I really enjoyed my time here very enriching no hesitation for a 5-star review. A must visit place."
"A great way to step back in time to see how our great grandparents lived. This is a well curated collection of memorabilia including farm machinery, horse buggies, old pre-electric sewing machines, washing machines and kids toys. For the very fair price of $5 for Adults you can wander around easily for a couple of hours looking at all the beautifully restored items and collections of things like telephones. Even has a "thunder box" (outdoor toilet) complete with redneck spider."
"In my opinion there is not a lot to see, as soon has we walked through the gate we were asked "do you want to buy tickets"? We asked how big the place was because it did not seem much. We were told that " Yeah there is loads to see" it was only $5 dollars each but we were around the place in 30 minutes and out. Sorry expected more....."
