About the Business
Welcome to the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA), located at 161 Collins Street in Melbourne, Australia. As an establishment and insurance agency, we are dedicated to providing top-notch insurance solutions and support to our clients.
At VMIA, we understand that navigating the claims process can be challenging, which is why we believe in working together with our clients to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience. We kindly request that all interactions with our team are conducted with respect and professionalism, as we have a zero-tolerance policy for abuse, aggression, or inappropriate behavior. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
We are pleased to announce that the Victorian Government has introduced support payments for clients of builders who have entered liquidation between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023 and did not obtain Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) on their clients' behalf. This support scheme is managed by the Department of Government Services, and we are here to assist you in accessing these benefits.
One of our key services is providing coverage for Victorian homeowners who have experienced unfinished or defective building work due to a builder's death, disappearance, or insolvency. We understand the frustration and financial burden that can arise from such situations, and we are committed to helping you get back on track when things don't go according to plan.
As an insurance agency, we offer contemporary and commercially competitive insurance solutions tailored to meet your specific needs. Our programs are designed to enhance your insurance and risk capabilities, ensuring that you have the necessary coverage to protect your assets and investments.
At VMIA, we place great importance on acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and recognize the invaluable contributions made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in creating a thriving Victoria.
If you have any questions or require assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our dedicated team. We are here to support you every step of the way.

"Condescending and intimidating calls from VMIA lawyers only. You cant speak to anyone working on your case you can only email. No accountability advised 14-21 days outcome. Its been 60+ days. Ive sent 4 messages in their portal with no response for a month. I would give -50 stars if I could."
"Given a chance I would give Zero rating. VMIA have no empathy whatsoever. No communication, no update for people who have lodged a claim when their builder went into liquidation. Dodgy insurance authority backed by victorian government. Useless company. Please avoid VMIA at any cost."
"Zero star definitely. If you are building again avoid these mob and ask your builder to get your DBI insurance elsewhere. 4 months on we are still waiting for a decision and a payout. We cannot proceed with our build while they hold our insurance payout to ransom while they find the cheapest builders quote so they don't have to payout the homeowner. They also reject 99% of defect claims and force you to take it to VCAT for it to be reviewed... Shame shame VMIA pay us Porter Davis customers the money we deserve."
"6 VCAT hearings in 5 years to get builder to fix non-compliant work. Finally awarded to us including costs. Builder goes into liquidation gets reincarnated under another name (this is the 40th time Pitard has done this by the way!). Meet both triggers under VMIA guidelines (builder has become insolvent and we have a VCAT order). Lodge application in March with very little for the VMIA to do. Called over 12 times to get an update, response is "we are very busy". Emailed over 8 times for an update with no feedback either. Meanwhile house leaks water, mold grows, stress levels increase, costs increase while our government bureaucrats get pay rises and work out how to weasel their way out of their statutory obligations. The Victorian public have had enough....!"
"DO NOT go anywhere near this business!!! Dealing with them is right up there with one of the worst experiences I have had. The undue stress they caused us is disgusting. There is absolutely no customer service, they just leave you hanging for months with no answers. It went from them telling us our warranty insurance application would take 10 days to process, to still not having done it months later. To make matters worse, they would not even communicate an accurate date we could expect it. Yes, they have a larger workload at the moment however the more I dig the more I find out how incompetent they are ALL THE TIME. I ended up going through another company whose turnaround time was 1 HOUR to process and complete my application!!!!!! I can't believe I wasted my time with VMIA."
