Fitzroy Legal Service 201 Napier Street, Fitzroy, Victoria 3065
About the Business
Welcome to Fitzroy Legal Service, Australia's first non-Aboriginal community legal centre! Established on 18 December 1972, our institution has been providing free legal advice to all individuals in need. Located in the basement of the historic Fitzroy Town Hall, in the vibrant suburb of Fitzroy, Melbourne, we have been dedicated to serving our community for decades.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our services. They generously give their time and expertise to ensure that everyone has access to justice. Our commitment to inclusivity extends beyond legal services. We proudly stand as an ally of the LGBTIQ community, fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.
Situated on the traditional country of the Wurundjeri-willam people of the Kulin Nation, we acknowledge and respect them as the Traditional Owners. We pay tribute to their Elders, both past and present, for their wisdom and guidance.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria for their generous support of the Law Handbook website redevelopment project. Their contribution enables us to enhance our online resources and better serve the community.
At Fitzroy Legal Service, we believe in the power of justice and the importance of equal access to legal advice. Whether you are facing a legal issue or seeking information, our dedicated team is here to assist you. Visit us at our location on Napier Street, Fitzroy, or explore our website for valuable resources and support.
Join us in our mission to ensure that justice is accessible to all. Together, we can make a difference in our community and create a more equitable society.

"I hate that night that I visited a lawyer at 8 pm in there in shorts. I felt like I push him to talk to me,Apparently, he was in a rush . Even when I asked him to talk a little bit slowly he got angry. Ended up he made me cry."
"I’ve been litigating with my exes lawyer via family matters with the occasional guidance of FLC. They’ve been encouraging and empowering. Great service!"
"Very Happy With Their Free Legal Advice and Support and Representation at Court Also They Have LGBTQ Team Members to Help With Certain Things Like Property Rights"
"Received free tenancy advice after the rental provider; at 'Clara Q' 118-120 HIGH ST STH KEW, issued a notice to vacate. Reason: I wouldn't replace a faulty electoral appliance supplied by the owner."
"Very rude lawyer who made me feel like my case was a joke to him. He didn’t want to listen to what I had to say and he told me it was not worth his time. He also didn’t offer me any advice as to what other avenues I can take but was instead very demeaning and dismissive towards me and my case. I was referred to this service by Vic legal. He was frustrated that Vic legal referred me and he took his frustration out on me me! Very very rude and unprofessional service. Wish I could speak to someone to make a formal complaint against this person."
