We also provide supportive sessions for parents who are seeking to understand and connect with their child's behavior.

We understand that the process of determining whether your child presents with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be stressful and time-consuming. To simplify this process, we offer a streamlined ASD assessment service that includes all the necessary assessments and services required for a comprehensive evaluation. If you have already started the assessment process with a pediatrician, you can also come to us with a referral for specific assessments.

At the Hawthorn Centre for Child Development, we strive to make our services accessible to all families. Our fees are significantly lower than the recommended rate by the Australian Psychological Society, and Medicare or health fund rebates may apply for services provided by our fully registered psychologists. Medicare rebates are available for individuals living with mental health difficulties, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more.

We also work with families who self-manage their NDIS funding, as well as those who are just starting out with the application process. If you don't self-manage, we can assist you in connecting with an agency to ensure you can still receive our services.

One of our key programs is the Circle of Security, a relationship-based early intervention program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and children. Research has shown that children who have secure attachments exhibit increased empathy, self-esteem, better relationships, enhanced school readiness, and improved emotional regulation.

By consulting with an APS psychologist at our center, you can be assured that you are receiving expert psychological services of the highest standard. APS psychologists have access to the latest research in the field and exclusive resources and support.

For a comprehensive assessment, your child will meet separately with a pediatrician, speech pathologist, and psychologist who will collaborate to determine whether a diagnosis is appropriate. We utilize assessments such as the Vineland, WPPSI-IV, ADOS-2, PEP-3, WISC-V, and Reynell to assess various developmental areas and cognitive functioning.
