The Centre Clinic 79-81 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, Victoria 3182
About the Business
Welcome to The Centre Clinic, a safe and friendly General Practice located in St Kilda, Fitzroy Street, 79-81. At our institution, we prioritize the health and well-being of the LGBTIQ community by providing general health care and specialized medical care for individuals living with HIV. We also offer expert sexual health screening and treatment.
Our clinic prides itself on its informal, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. Our team consists of Registered General Practitioners who are equipped to provide healthcare and specialist referrals for all health-related matters.
In addition to our comprehensive services, we have established strong links with a range of LGBTIQ friendly allied health services throughout Victoria. This includes dentists, podiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, dieticians, physiotherapy, osteopaths, and other specialists, ensuring that our patients receive holistic care.
When it comes to billing, The Centre Clinic follows a mixed billing model for General Practitioner and Nurse Practitioner consultations. We bulk bill all patients with current, Australian-issued concession or student cards from Monday to Friday. For all other patients, private fees will be charged, but Medicare rebates apply for current Medicare Card holders, and we can process your Medicare claim for overnight payment if you have provided your current residential and bank account details to Medicare.
Please note that starting from August 1st, 2023, we will be increasing our private fees by $5 due to the increasing operating expenses of the clinic. However, current concession/pension card holders and full-time students aged under 25 years will continue to be bulk billed. If you are facing financial difficulties, please speak to our reception team or doctor so that we can continue to support you.
We also have a non-attendance fee of $20, payable prior to your next appointment, and any requested prescriptions left uncollected will be posted out at the end of each month with an invoice attached.
Rest assured that your medical records are confidential, and The Centre Clinic maintains the security of your personal information at all times.
We strive to accommodate your preferred appointment time, but emergencies will always be given priority. If you require extra time or have multiple problems to discuss, please ask our receptionist for longer consultation times.
Existing patients can conveniently book face-to-face appointments online using the Health Engine Book Now button on our Facebook page. However, we ask all new patients to call reception to book their initial appointment.
Under Medicare guidelines, we can offer bulk billed face-to-face, telehealth (phone), and video consultations to Medicare eligible patients under specific conditions. To book telehealth and video conference appointments, please call reception to check your eligibility.
If you require an interpreter service or services for hearing impaired patients, please advise us at the time of booking, and we will make the necessary arrangements.
For phone consultations with your doctor, our reception staff will either connect your call directly or record a brief written message to be forwarded to your doctor. Your doctor will prioritize these messages and return your call as soon as possible.
At The Centre Clinic, we have a policy and procedure in place for the timely review and reporting of all pathology results. We prefer that you see your GP for results rather than receive them over the phone. Please note that we do not give HIV test results by phone.
In case of an urgent medical problem after hours, please call our locum service Doctor Doctor and mention that you are a patient of The Centre Clinic, as well as the name of your doctor. Please be aware that there may be a charge for this service, so do inquire when booking.
Home visits are available only by arrangement directly with your treating doctor and are at their discretion. Our clinic strictly adheres to a protocol indicating under what circumstances a home visit may take place. If you require further details, please consult with your doctor.
We are proud to announce that The Centre Clinic is AGPAL accredited. This means that our general practice is committed to a comprehensive program that ensures high-quality health care in a safe environment. Accreditation is a voluntary process, and not all practices undergo an independent on-site assessment regularly, so our commitment sets us apart.
Lastly, we would like to extend a statement of apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We acknowledge the importance of cultural sensitivity and strive to provide inclusive and respectful care to all individuals.
Thank you for choosing The Centre Clinic. We look forward to providing you with exceptional health care services.

Reviews
"My child goes here for health care on the basis of their trans non-binary identity. I was shocked to have found out that their GP is not well trained in issues pertaining to trans health, especially as the clinic appears to pride themself on this. Their GP, Dr Emily misgendered them numerous times as well as making weird comments about TERFs."
"Fantastic admin staff are always friendly and helpful even when very busy. Medical team I have seen are all professional and patient focused. The most comfortable I have ever felt at a Doctor."
"Even during business hrs the phone is on this long winded message. Reception staff don’t pick up the phone. Only to find out they closed at 11am Fri 9th.Dec. No sign when I visited Wednesday saying closing early Friday. Wanted my pathology results. It was a serious infection and needed confirmation that after pathology I was on right drugs. Not good enough. And my appointment was on the previous Wed was 12.50. I was told a 1 -2pm was lunch and an appointment with nurse for bloods etc would be made at 2pm. I arrived 2pm and told reception I had a 2pm with nurse. After 1/2 hr wait I approached reception again (different person) and told my appointment was 2.30…I got in at 2.45pm. The 1st reception person didn’t bother telling me that. A lot of stuffing around. I’ll ring Sat morning. Just hope their advertised hrs are correct and the aren’t closed then too. And guess what. They were closed. It’s just not good enough."
"I just visited their Pride Centre clinic and had a fantastic experience. I booked over the phone since this was my first appointment. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The GP was very courteous and friendly too. Thank you for keeping such a fantastic clinic running. A notice in the clinic said that they will be offering medicare rebates (and bulk billing for a subset of customers only) starting Feb 1st 2022"
"The centre clinic is related to Thorne Harbour Health. And unlike other popular clinics in Melbourne that are specialised for LGBTQ community, like North Side clinic and Prahran Clinic, it is free and accept Medicare and bulk billing. Yet it is at highest standards with great doctors. They are not just specialised in HIV and std/sti, but also has GP's and everything else."
