"This experience was from June and preceded up to to July: I should have placed a bet on what would be the worst store of my life because Bett’s would have been the only name on the list. My first visit - there were salespeople at the counter simply doing nothing, which is okay, because I didn't mind shopping on my own. To explain my grievance: I purchased a pair of shoes, where I didn't know one side was faulty. There was a groove underneath the top of the right shoe where the fabric is poorly stitched together. It's a very noticeable manufacturing defect that rubs against the top of the foot. This is something I discovered only after its purchase and when I tried walking in them for 15-20 mins. I was initially shocked by how biting the right shoe felt, compared to the left. When I took them off, the spot where the groove was had chafed my skin to a painful red, which I took pictures off. I was afraid of my skin breaking or worse if I tried it for longer. So then, I tried going into the store (which was only six days after the purchase), which was another hornet’s nest. The manager stated that she understood, that she could see what issue I was talking about because the shoes were flawed and different in their making and you can literally see the difference between them but that she was instructed to tell me that she couldn’t help me and that it wasn’t her decision. In other words, she was shifting the blame onto someone else and it all felt extremely disingenuous. When I said I was disappointed, she remarked, “I know that” and reiterated very pointedly that she couldn’t help me. Then she added that maybe customer service will be able to help. I felt unheard and ignored and unwanted. It was very frustrating as the manager HERSELF could see the groove. She knew. Especially more frustrating: I wanted it for upcoming travel so a pair of sneakers I bought for $150 AUD was null and void. They asked me to contact customer service again but I’m sorry, I’m not going to be able to do that when I’m travelling overseas in a few days - which is why I bought the shoes in the first place. When I told them this, the manager said, “I know that and there’s nothing I can do.” Thank you, Betts'. To summarise, one of the worst shoe stores that I have ever visited because when I buy a pair of expensive shoes, I expect good quality and comfort and I received none of that. It is ironic that the pair of shoes I purchased had bylines off “Comfort is in our DNA” and “Bringing you all day comfort.” And yet, what these shoes took from were $150 and my time and what they did give me was a bruised sore right toe. Ever since I got back to Melbourne, I tried contacting customer service again (because these shoes were in the closet collecting dust). The conversation was very back-and-forths and they wanted me to bring the shoes to the store again and it just felt like I was spending a lot of time for results that I didn't even know were going to be good (especially considering the experience bringing my shoes to the store last time.) I ended up finding a cobbler (because at least with them, you know you'll get results) and paid under a hundred bucks to get the stitching right for the right shoe. It looks very, very ugly on the inside but hey, at least I can wear it now without grimacing in pain. So thank you Betts, for making me spend another 90 dollars. For other stores that provide better shoes and 100% customer service: Wittner (which is right next door) Jo Mercer Windsor Smith I ended up buying my next shoes from these shops and what a difference it was to Betts. It was a cursed decision I made walking into that place. In my heart, I still wish that I can exchange the right one for a defectless one (because it really does look quite unsightly) but I'm sure as hell not going to buy another pair. Who knows what defects THAT pair will come with."
"Really great customer service, particularly the young man who helped me pick out the perfect shoes for my performance. I think they could do with a little more stock, especially in half sizes but very positive overall!"
