With a remarkable career spanning 37 years, Dr Mike Freelander has dedicated his life to ensuring that our children receive the best start in life. His journey as a paediatrician began at the renowned Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Camperdown, where he honed his skills after completing his residency at the esteemed Royal North Shore Hospital. In 1984, Dr Mike and his wife Sharon made the decision to settle in the Macarthur Region, where they raised their six children. It was during this time that Dr Mike started working at Campbelltown Hospital, eventually assuming the role of Head of Paediatrics from 1986 to 2013.

Recognizing the growing needs of the region, Dr Mike established practices in Campbelltown and Camden, recognizing the gaps in healthcare provision. Despite his demanding workload as a paediatrician, Dr Mike still finds time to contribute to his profession by teaching the next generation of doctors as a lecturer at Western Sydney University.

His unwavering commitment and hard work have earned him the respect and admiration of local families and residents. Over the course of his career, Dr Mike has treated more than 200,000 patients in the Macarthur region alone.

Through his interactions with patients and their families, Dr Mike has witnessed firsthand the challenges they face in accessing essential services such as healthcare, work, housing, and education. It is these pressing issues that compelled Dr Mike to run for the Federal seat of Macarthur. He is determined to make a positive difference in the lives of the children he has cared for and their families.
