"My journey to studying with ASI is probably quite different from most. I watched them from a distance for about 2 years, reading their emails, following their socials and in general really debating with myself whether it was something I should - or could - do. I was however, impressed that throughout those 2 years I received occasional phone calls to check in with me to see how I was going with my journey. There was never any pressure to enrol, there was a genuine interest in my journey, my thought process and how they could help me. Eventually I worked up the courage to attend an information session and was blown away by their space in Fitzroy and meeting past students who shared their journeys with me. It became apparent that the key was just to say 'yes and figure out how' - which is one of the key philosophies of the Institute. It also became apparent that these students were there out of sheer love and passion for the Institute and what they got out of it. No amount of marketing dollars could have bought the passion in these alumni that I saw come as easily as breathing. I recently completed my 5 day training and am preparing for my next round of training in a few months. If there is one thing I know for sure, if you study with ASI you will never be in want of resources, support or encouragement. There is an active Facebook group open to all students and alumni where jobs and other opportunities are regularly posted. There is a resource library which is just brimming with a treasure trove of resources for every topic you could possibly imagine. You can schedule mentoring sessions with the staff there - for free - as you walk through your studies and starting your styling business, and they are fantastic to bounce questions off and to help you understand more about the industry. Another thing that I really like is that they don't just believe in their students, they champion them. They publish updates on what other alumni are doing, they promote us to companies looking to work with stylists and work with their network to find you great opportunities. Throughout the five day training, you will be stretched, challenged, encouraged and pushed and it is the best feeling in the world. I honestly cannot recommend them highly enough. One thing I do need to highlight is that this is not just for young hip fashionistas. In my course, there were students ranging from teenagers through to 50's, from all different cultures, countries and professional backgrounds, and who were all interested in doing something different with the course. Some of us wanted to be stylists, some wanted to go into editorial, some wanted to do celebrity - no two dreams were alike yet we all found value and learning opportunities in the course. If you are considering enrolling - SAY YES AND FIGURE OUT HOW - they will support you no matter what and it will be the best decision you will ever make. Three months after completing my 5 day face to face I am doing things I NEVER thought possible, dipping my toe into a world of possibilities I never knew existed, and loving every second of the journey."
