"They've spent a $114 million of taxpayers money on a new building but the appointment times are still fictional. Expect to wait on average more than 2 hours past your scheduled time. I've been coming to PoW for over a decade and its no better than it was before. I think the doctors are doing the best they can but the hospital administration seems like it needs a LOT of work. EDIT: (I left this review 3 years ago and i have to update it. Appointment times are much better now, pretty close to the mark. The staff are helpful and the doctors are amazing (and have always been). Shout out to the nurses as well."
"My husband just finished 12 cycles of chemo at the Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre. The nurses at the haematology oncology day care centre were amazing, caring, passionate, professional and hard working. When my husband had a reaction from the chemo, the nurses acted promptly and professionally. We feel safe having treatments there. The nurse, Carol who came to do the disconnection for my husband. I will give her 100 stars if I could. Every time she comes she will check in with me and making sure I’m doing well and have been receiving all the supports. She shows compassion towards everyone. Thank you Carol! I have deducted 1 star because of the coordinate nurse, she doesn’t reply my texts or calls when my husband has some side effects or questions even when it’s during her duty hours. I was told not to text or call her after hours and I followed but still no feedbacks from her then I gave up. We have never experienced cancer before so we need someone who really cares and has empathy throughout this tough journey."
"At the beginning I would have given five stars but I was abused unmercifully by two surgeons (two occasions). Neither of them knew me. Yes I know their names and exactly what was said. There was a witness at the time and as I was exiting bumped into a staff member in tears. Told her what happened and in fact put it in writing to same staff member (no response). I have gone through a horror operation but survived with my head held high until I was treated in this manner. The lesson is never speak against one of theirs because in the end you will be very much alone even by your own team who gave me strength in the first place. These occasions still haunt me. I was so strong."
"I thought I'd never need the services available at the Nelune Cancer Centre. But now I need them. And I feel so grateful that such a state of the art facility exists. Medical, nursing and radiotherapy staff are all dedicated, courteous, professional, highly knowledgeable and couldn't do more for me. I am so amazed by the people and the service at the Nelune Centre and Australia's world class public hospital system. Thank you, I am trusting you with my life."
"I used to take my mother for cancer treatments. The doctors and support nurse were very passionate, accommodating and diligent, and mother was put on some serious medication, which could kill that's why i had to bring her for regular blood tests. This is when i came to a problem with the staff who were taking blood. They could not find the vein and were just pocking and pocking the patient like she was some training material. This staff needs more training and be able to acknowledge that in some cases they should call for an experience staff to help them. These staff members do not have decency or courage (not sure what it is) to admit that they need help and get very defensive and expect the patient to put up with the pain they cause with their needles. The saga continued when i brought her for ex-rays. They had to put the die in her vein, missed it and went through the whole process presenting the image without the die to the specialist. Without acknowledging the specialist send her for same procedure, this time, the nurse missed the vein and the specialist himself had to get the die in her vein. So there 's a lot of misses and no acknowledgement. The guys at the reception on level 2 are hopeless, need to be friendlier and need lots of training. On overall its very well set up and presented center. All necessary facilities are there. Clean toilets with paper. Self check in service is first class. Cafeteria is amazing. Great food. Fast coffee. There's also free coffee and biscuits in many waiting areas. My recent trip for my own treatment was a very good experience. All of the nurses, doctors, specialist are most wonderful. One of them held my hand in support, with warm words. i would give 10 star if it wasn't for the blood taking staff"
