Thanks to the 2022β23 State Budget, Kurmile Primary School received a share of $527.233 million allocated for new schools, ensuring that our institution is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and resources.
Our school's name, Kurmile, was chosen following a two-week community consultation process. The name, pronounced kur-mill-ee, is derived from the Bunurong language and means white cockatoo. We are proud to embrace the rich cultural heritage of the area.
During the planning and design phase, the school was temporarily named Officer Brunt Road Primary School. However, we are excited to officially be known as Kurmile Primary School.
Leading our school community is Principal Sharon Mitchell. With a background in primary schools in South Gippsland and recent experience as the principal of Lang Lang Primary School, Sharon is honored to be the foundation principal of Kurmile Primary School. She is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment where all children can thrive.
At Kurmile Primary School, students will have access to modern learning areas equipped with air conditioning and heating, ensuring their comfort throughout the year. Outside, shade sails are provided for sun protection, allowing students to enjoy outdoor activities while staying safe from the harsh Australian sun. Our school has been designed with environmental sustainability in mind, making it easy to manage and reducing our ecological footprint.
Throughout the planning process, we have worked closely with the local Traditional Owners, represented by the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, to ensure that our school's design is endorsed and respects the cultural heritage of the area.
To find our location, Fairweather Parade is marked along the bottom of the plan, while Barbara Avenue is marked along the right.
We are thrilled to welcome students and families to Kurmile Primary School, where we strive to provide an exceptional education and foster a sense of community and inclusivity. Join us on this exciting journey as we build the future of education in Officer, Australia.
