About the Business
Welcome to KU Liverpool AMEP! For over 30 years, we have proudly provided childcare under the Australian Government funded Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) to assist parents in completing their English classes while their children engage in play-based learning environments.
The AMEP is a free service designed to help eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants with low English levels improve their language skills and settle into Australia. This program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
At KU Liverpool AMEP, we offer free childcare placements for children under school age for the duration of their face-to-face English classes. Families can remain enrolled under the AMEP funding until they reach vocational English.
For many families newly arrived in Australia, our childcare center provides their first experience with childcare. We pride ourselves on being welcoming to all families and embracing cultural diversity. This positive childcare experience serves as a settlement springboard for families and children to take the next steps in participating and engaging in the broader Australian community.
We are proud to work in partnership with Navitas Skilled Futures and Max Solutions to support the settlement needs of AMEP clients. For eligible AMEP clients with children under school age, KU manages the provision of childcare through on-site or mainstream childcare services. There is no childcare cost to AMEP clients for the duration of their AMEP tuition.
We manage six AMEP onsite childcare centers located in Bankstown, Cabramatta, Canberra, Fairfield, Liverpool, and Mayfield.
At KU Liverpool AMEP, we celebrate early childhood and children's cultures each day. Through play and exploration, we spark children's imagination and curiosity, fostering a love for learning. Our educators encourage families to maintain their first language, and we match our educator's languages with the language needs of each AMEP service.
Our play-based program provides intentional opportunities and activities based on the Early Years Learning Framework, allowing children to discover and pursue their own interests and strengths. Our program is both multi-lingual and culturally appropriate.
We encourage children to laugh, think, question, and learn. As they build connections with each other and our team, their sense of self and confidence grow.
Building strong relationships with our migrant families is of utmost importance to us. We strive to provide a high-quality program for young children, but what matters most is what our families think.
One of our AMEP parents shared their experience, stating, "This was our first experience with childcare in Australia. It was so important to have childcare onsite with educators who were able to speak our language. This allowed the family and staff to have meaningful daily communication about the child. The exchange of information is a necessary component of building trusting relationships with the community."
Another parent expressed their gratitude, saying, "Special thanks to all KU staff for their great support during the time my children were enrolled at a KU AMEP center. It was amazing, not only for myself but also for my children. My children were really excited to go to childcare, and I was relaxed to go to class to improve my English. I received great support for my children to be well educated and for myself to be relaxed emotionally. I would like to thank the Director and her staff very much for their great support. My husband and I will never forget their efforts and their contribution to my family."
Each KU AMEP center is unique in its cultural diversity and languages. We believe that the best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, as well as children and their families. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, and homelike learning environments for children in our AMEP settings.
Some of our centers boast beautiful outdoor environments, which serve as an extension of our indoor learning spaces. We offer a range of experiences outside, including vegetable gardens, to teach children about healthy eating practices.
Our program is fully funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs and is free for eligible migrant families.
Fung, one of our dedicated staff members, has been working with children for over 30 years and has experience as a teacher in a Chinese school in Australia. She loves cultural music and languages and enjoys watching children grow and assisting with their development. Fung looks forward to meeting new families and getting the opportunity to understand their cultures.
Our team of early childhood educators is qualified, experienced, caring, and highly motivated. They all hold specialist qualifications in early childhood education. We maintain a higher ratio of educators to children than required by the National Quality Standards and legislation, ensuring that your child feels a greater sense of belonging. Our educators can speak a variety of community languages and provide culturally responsive care. We believe that the positive interactions children have with our staff are the most important component of our high-quality program.
All our staff members have experience and knowledge of working with diverse communities and understand the needs of newly arrived migrants. They plan programs that are sensitive and culturally appropriate to ensure the best possible experience for your child.

"I would like to share with you about the KU Liverpool AMEP Centre. The place is very safe with the friendly staff. I like that it’s an educational play-based facility with the small ratio of children and wonderful Coordinator, Ms. Fung and educators. Your child explores to different aspects of learning through sensory and play. Also another advantage is that Educators are fully aware of diversity."
