About the Business
Welcome to Kew East Primary School, a prestigious establishment located at 35 Kitchener Street in the vibrant neighborhood of Kew East, Australia. Since its official opening on 25 April, 1892, our school has been a cornerstone of education in the community. In 1923, we moved to our current site on Kitchener Street, where we have continued to grow and evolve over the past 94 years.
At Kew East Primary School, we prioritize providing an exceptional learning environment for our students. With a focus on academic excellence, we have expanded both our student numbers and facilities to ensure that every child receives the best education possible. As part of our commitment to holistic development, we have recently built a state-of-the-art indoor gymnasium/hall, providing our students with ample opportunities for physical activity and sports.
We take great pride in our Kew Music Centre, a facility that has been an integral part of our school community since its establishment in 1978. Originally a joint community project involving the Kew East Primary School Council, Kew City Council, Kew Citizen's Band, St. Anne's School, and the Kew East Band Parents' Association, the music center has become a hub for nurturing musical talent. Our renowned Kew East Primary School Band, which was founded in 1930, continues to excel and achieve notable success to this day.
One of the defining features of Kew East Primary School is our school motif, which depicts fledgling spreading wings. This emblem represents our commitment to supporting and guiding our students as they embark on their journey towards a bright future. We strive to foster a supportive and encouraging environment that empowers our students to be vigorous, skilled, and resolute in their pursuit of excellence.
Leading our institution is Principal Helen Fotheringham, who is dedicated to providing outstanding leadership and ensuring the well-being of our students. Assisting her is Assistant Principal Peter Madden, who plays a crucial role in maintaining our high educational standards. Our School Council President, Jarrod Frazer, works closely with the staff and parents to ensure the smooth operation of the school.
Located at 35 Kitchener Street, Kew East, our school is easily accessible to families in the area. To get in touch with us, please call 9859 2903 or email kew.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au. We welcome you to join our community at Kew East Primary School, where we empower our students to soar onwards and upwards towards a bright and successful future.

"Great community in the school and great education"
"It's been over a decade since the day I first attended this school, and I have so many good memories about it. I really miss this school and the environment, the teachers, but most importantly, the before and after school care. When I say the Before and After School Care at this school was the bomb, I really mean it. I don't know what it's like now, but back then, I used to go to school, get some raisin toast, and play some games on their Wii. All in all, this school was an amazing experience for me. I'm not sure if it has changed for the better or worse, but if its the same or better as it was, I HIGHLY recommend sending your kid here."
"My year 6 teacher was the best and my favourite. Highly recommend."
"Candice said that this school is bad"
"The relentless building program sees no natural grass on any play area, it is purely for show along Kitchener street and for the indulgence of staff. Children no longer come home with dirty knees and a worm they found on the oval. Instead they arrive with carpet burn from synthetic grass and compounded joints from running on concrete all day. Further more the abhorrent and entirely superfluous gymnasium constructed on the old netball court destroys any architectural hierarchy thus creating a claustrophobic tunnel between buildings. There have been no attempts made to integrate with the site or most importantly original school buildings. Not only is this a failure of the architect but also the school. As for the education standards I can only comment from my time there. Despite primary school prodominantly being craft its benefits were numerous. The diversity of subject areas enlightened all children."
